I remember someone asking for charger advice earlier in the thread, so I took some pictures on the single biggest trick that helped me get the handle on Chargers. Sorry in advance for phone camera. So, you've got the Charger, and you come across a cliff: You want to scale it! So of course your charge up your gun and take a shot. Right around here looks good, it'll drop all that paint up in the air and cover everything between you and some area up there, right? Not quite. While it does get paint all over the area above the cliff, which can be very useful, aiming in the sky above a cliff only works with the regular splattershot. A charger's ink basically drops straight down immediately, there is no "arc" to it, so vertical walls like this one get completely unpainted if you shoot over them. The trick is to aim right around here: Doing so will give you a satisfying drip all the way from the top of the wall to the ground, plus fill in all the space between you and the wall with ink. It looks more impressive on taller walls, but this little trick will give you a perfect roadway right to the wall and then right up the wall every single time. This is probably obvious but it took me several rounds to realize why sometimes I could paint walls the the charger and sometimes they'd be frustratingly empty, and getting to a high safe place should be your first priority when playing as a Charger. There is one other big trick to the charger that helps a lot, too - a lot of people complain that the charger is terrible at covering ground, but that's only because you're probably trying to cover ground the same way you'd cover ground with a splattershot. Let's say you get an un-inked area like this one, and you want to fill it up with ink: With a splattershot, you could fill this whole area by standing still and circling around while aiming, but that is very inefficient with a charger. The way to do it as a charge is to aim parallel to the ground, hold left, and mash the fire button. Doing that will make a bunch of streaks of paint along the ground, and if you get them close enough together: You completely fill the whole area in barely a moment. This technique also works when you're above the area you want to ink - just aim parallel to the ground and let your ink drop into place. The charger is so ideal for high places because no other gun can ink all the areas directly next to the tower while standing on top of the tower, but the charger does this easily, thanks to the straight vertical drop of the charger's ink. Basically, the charger draws a straight line between you and the place you aim. The longer the charge, the longer the line. And then it just drops ink vertically from the line. There is no deviation, no arc, no variation like there is with all the various splattershots, and that takes some getting used to! But once you understand exactly how to use that to your advantage the charger becomes a very powerful tool.

I just can't use a shooter other than the Splattershot Jr. I tried and while I came in first on my team most of the time, we just lost over and over. Switched back and went on a winning streak, placing first every time. I think it has to do with filling up the special meter more often and bubbling. It also seems that going to Octo Valley kills your vibe. I went to talk to Judd for the first time today and he wouldn't give me anything but tips. I went to the lobby and saw my vibe had been reset to zero.

So, checked Target's inventory thing people linked before yesterday for the 3-pack, since I missed the Amazon sale; two Targets in the nearby city had some saleable ones (plus one more on-hand but not saleable for some reason), two at one, four at another. The former dwindled down to one, then none, over the hours I checked that night, but the other held steady at four; was still like that this morning when I went in. Upon arrival, though, I couldn't find any on the shelves. (Tangentially, the Amiibo shelf was like three-quarters empty, only things like Mario, Luigi, and other older ones there.) After fruitless searching, pressed the button to have someone come help (there was no one in the electronics department). After she couldn't find one either, she scanned the code, and the computer showed five there, zero in the back. She said this meant that the system probably just hadn't been updated and they were all sold, unless they were misplaced around the store in the wrong places. It was rather disappointing. After helping my mom around the store for a while, decided to go back and take one more look before we left. After a few moments, a new guy arrived behind the counter, and I decided to ask if he knew about the Splatoon Amiibos, just because. He said he had them behind the counter, picked up a cardboard box, and opened it up to reveal four 3-packs; there were two similar boxes but with slightly different dimensions there too that probably had other new Amiibos. So, I have the Amiibos now because of... I don't even know. Those almost definitely should have been on the shelf since yesterday, but the guy knew right where they were and sold me one then and there so it wasn't like he was hiding them. Maybe he un(?)intentionally thwarted another employee's scheme or something. It was definitely a nice development for me though. Tangentially, while walking around the store I happened to overhear a couple of (different) employees talking; only heard a portion of it but one of them said something like "-Amiibo launch. Now that was-", implying that he had a hell of a time yesterday. Roland Jones fucked around with this message at 00:24 on May 31, 2015 |

I thought I would like the blaster going in, and then I fell out of love with it, but then I fell back in love with it. It doesn't have the same near-area paint coverage as a .52 gal but the paint it fires is always beneath your feet and makes really good ink channels for rollouts and escapes from enemy ink, so it feels like the fastest you can move with a gun. It's very fun to jump off a ledge and splat someone from above with one shot, very nice.

Do all the Splatoon amiibos give you minigames? The rhythm game you get from the squid one is neat. (Plus the time attack missions owned) All the rewards are actually pretty cool except for the weapon which is just a reskinned version of the default splattershot I think

Well, finished the single player. Last boss wasn't as much of a slog as people said it was, imo, but the big missiles were a pain in the rear end. I kinda wish the Octolings were more of a threat, for how much they get hyped up they're really only dangerous if they gang up on you. Otherwise, they're just you with poor AI. I would love a single player or co-op mode where you just fight off waves of Octolings, maybe make some new types that use different weapons. I had fun with the single player. Now to track down the rest of the scrolls and do the amiibo challenges!

I just avoid other rollers when I use that, though I've been using .52 and Blaster lately anyway. Blaster gets lots of cool kills but it's getting tiresome being in third place of the winning team with like a 10-1 ratio since it barely paints at all compared to the smgs or roller.

I've gotta use the splattershot or the blaster. Charger has some real great niche uses and you can be really pro with it, but I feel like I find myself in situations with not much I can do but run away and I end up wasting time compared to a more rounded build like a splattershot. Roller will always be satisfying. Neat perfect lines of paint everywhere...

I've really come to like skate park as a map. There are a lot of ways to approach the major areas and the open nature of the map makes it hard to completely contain the enemy team on their side of the map. Using the blaster on it feels almost unfair though. I regularly go 10-0 and higher using any variant just because there's so many obstacles and elevations to lob ink from. Also, the final boss of the single player is great. Guy starts out pretty manageable to show you his moves, then the rhythm just picks up and keeps on rising.
