Albertan's have been talking about the $15/hr minimum wage again, likely because of all the attention it's gotten in the U.S. Usually it gets shut down with talk like "If we raise the minimum wage, no one will ever want to leave their cushy McDonalds gig!" or "Who cares, minimum wage is just for teenager's summer jobs". You also get the occasional "I heard that Tim Horton's workers make like $20/hr anyway". Which is true, if the Timmy's is very near an oil camp because they're competing with some well-paid labour jobs just down the highway. With oil bottoming out, and thousands of the oil-labour jobs having just been laid off, the latest talking point is that it's just Big Government (or Evil Socialist NDP) attacking small businesses. People here honestly think that the new NDP government is going to destroy all the small businesses to pad the wallets of dumb talentless teenagers who will vote for them in 4 years.

I've seen the same image used to protest the fur industry. Here it's just missing the half of the image with the pelts in barrels. Those carcasses (likely minks, given the tails), are far more likely to end up feeding other animals, or being used for fertilizer.

Rob Smith Jr. seems really good at making AGC. A lot of those that you just posted are so easily interpreted either way. Then there's cartoons like that banker one that have indecipherable messages. Is Obama supposed to be the bad guy in that one? What's going on?

Those vegan comics are legitimately in the top 5% of art quality of western-drawn anime-styled things. Bennett, Allie, and now this are some of the few artists where I derive any joy from the art itself. What I'm saying is vegan girl is still better than Ted Rall.

Ted Rall is not putting omnivorism on par with homophobia, misogyny, and loving Nazism which says a lot since Rall tends to equate the latter with everyone. And gently caress you for making me defend Ted Rall.

Oh well, sorry for jumping the gun then. Although I am still very skeptical she draws that poo poo, as it seems like the characters are heavily copy-pasted. Rall draws like he smacks himself in the head with a 2x4 before drawing, but at least he draws.

I mean, industrial livestock production isn't good, but I've seen a cow getting butchered and it really didn't bother me at all. It's not a human vv I'm squeamish about it. Gore ,especially when it's unexpected and or/uncontextualized will get to me at times, but I know that other people just handle it better for whatever reason and I don't find anything significant in a person who likes bloody horror films or is indifferent to slaughter house images for that reason. People who get a thrill, especially a really sexual one from violent and gory stuff are kind of off-putting, and people who collect a lot of real content like videos and pictures of animals, or worse people, being tortured and killed disturb me. I tend to see animal rights activists who push a lot of dead animal imagery as being like the homophobes who go into extreme detail about what they think gay sex is like; I don't think they enjoy the gore so much as the intense feeling it creates in them, and the shock they get/imagine getting out of exposing other people to it.
