The upgraded guns traverse 50% faster, but yeah, get used to putting some planning into which way your turrets are oriented. Consider it the price of admission for those 8" guns. My main problem with the Pensacola is that it's poorly armored and ponderous to maneuver when compared to the Cleveland.

Now the IJN Aoba? She's very nice.

Two of those battleships tried to take me in a tail chase (me running of course) and both wound up dead thanks to a combination of gunfire (mine), a torpedo (also mine) and some very well timed dive bombing (not mine). Then the opposing team decided to try to win by capture and failed to take out our Myogi class cruiser and I caught their carrier trying to capture point A. I took the point and sank him to finish the game. A battleship that was coming to assist the carrier couldn't help because I kept an island between us while I hammered the carrier with 8" rounds.

Yup, that has been my feeling too. The us cruisers are pretty cool at defanging carriers. However, you can definitely tell they were designed to escort the similarly ponderous US battleships. On the other hand, the ijn cruisers are pretty fun. The myoko grew on me some once I realized something. Like the myogi, it basically has three rear turrets. However, unlike the myogi, the 3rd turret is up front, but still facing aft. Things got a bit better once I realized and adjusted to that. The mogami fixes that though to a 3 stack forward set. I just love having torpedos handily nearby. Even if they don't do much, just forcing pubbies to alter course because tof them coming in is enough to get some better side shots on them.

The mogami has some armor that was pretty useful back when it was a tier 7. I dunno how it handles at tier 8.

This game is just like tanks - your team is often completely useless and can't figure out what guns do.

Two of those kills were when the enemy started capping our spawn (standard game), and only myself and a New Orleans went back to stop them. It was a pair of loving North Carolina's, and I sunk both of them. I charged and put three torpedoes into the low health one, then ignored him because he'd burned his repair on a fire that the New Orleans had lit, he died to flooding. The second one both of us dumped a crapton of HE into, and he burned down. Myself and the New Orleans somehow survived, but both of us were below 5k health.

Somehow, even though two cruisers sank their top tier pair of battleships on the enemy team, and saved the cap, the rest of our team somehow took a 10:4 winning game when I died shortly after my glory run, and managed to turn it into a draw.

:suicide:

E: I also got called an "HE Spammer poo poo" or something similar twice tonight, which was kind of funny because in one of those games I was in the Mogami and that captain doesn't even have Pyromania so I couldn't be abusing the bug if I wanted to, and the other game was in the Amagi and I was happily pumping AP rounds into citadels.

Uhh ponderous compared to what? Almost every US cruiser is equal or better than the equivalent tier IJN cruiser for maneuverability.

Do battleship guns ever get, y'know, accurate? Four days in, I'm having a ball with cruisers, just tearing things up with them. But, the first battleships I'm in, the South Carolina and the Kawachi, are routinely failing to hit the broad side of barns and just feel like torpedo bait.

Yeah I know the US BBs are slow at the low tiers but he said the US cruisers were "designed to escort the similarly ponderous US battleships", which confused me because the US cruisers aren't ponderous at all.

The first battleships on either tree are absolute poo poo. You'll see a definite improvement with the next one.

Better once you upgrade the guns, but it's still a mediocre ship overall. It does fine when you're in the back not getting shot but once you're targeted then welp, I hope you like citadels. The New Orleans is pretty solid, so you may want to shorten the grind with some free xp if you have any lying around.

I switched back to Cleveland for faster RoF and turret rotation. 48,000 xp left to New Orleans! :negative: But man late night games suck, I get dragged to matches against Iowa and whatnot, and it's just nightmare. Also cruisers weren't designed to escort battleships at all, that's what Destroyers were designed to do. Cruisers were designed to be long range fleet scouts and commerce protectors/raiders.

Well not only that, but I'd say the Pensacola is the peak in power vs tier for US cruisers, yes even better than the Cleveland. The 8 inch guns have such a flat trajectory it is super easy to hit people all the way out to max range.

Des Moines is cool, but the Pensacola is the US cruiser I have the best stats for (win %, avg exp, etc) by far.

How you can say that I have no idea, the St Louis is so so OP at tier it's unreal. This little ship will be my first priority in the open Beta, it's just WAY out there in money and exp making.

I wasn't really thinking about the ships you go past in just a couple matches. Just the ones which you may really need to grind and would consider using free xp on.

Awesome. I'm really enjoying this so far, even at low tiers. Eventually, I'll probably hit a skill wall, but the slower pace of it really appeals; I at least have a fighting chance of shooting back at someone when engaged, most of the time.

Pretty much this. Or I might just free xp the turret and use Pensacola instead. The main reason I prefer Cleveland is I can shoot faster than Pensacola though.

e: Upgraded turret, it's pretty decent now. RoF sucks but at least projectile speed is fast enough. Except I can't get decent xp per game :negative:

Well, then I guess I'm wrong then. Just seems like I could zip around more in an ijn cruiser compared to the US ones of the same tier. For as bad as the myoko's turret layout is, I'd rather drive it than a pensacola just because it seemed more manueverable and faster. Is this one of those things were we find out the ijn cruisers have a faster 0-60 time which is why they seem more zippy?

IJN cruisers seem more agile than US cruisers. If I engage them at 12+ km they seem to be able to dodge almost all of my shots without a sweat.

Also what 2nd modules should I use for Pensacola? I'm using turret speed module but was wondering if 1.5 seconds more reload time matters (default 15 seconds reload).

You have two decent choices. Up the accuracy which is never a bad idea. Or you can go with improving your aa range. Which is comedy because you'll burn off those torpedo planes before they can get into a decent range to bomb you close. Especially if combined with the barrage skill. The choice is yours.

Yea, it's annoying that these things are statless. Having said that, I used the accuracy mod on my Pensacola and it's the highest average experience cruiser (other than the ones I played during the 5x weekend) and I have both lines to T8 now. In my opinion the Pensacola was the high-point of the line so far, although the Cleveland was pretty damned close. Pensacola with the 8" guns is a serious hitter, and quite accurate, I enjoyed it so much that I kept it as a go-to ship for teaming up at that tier.

The New Orleans is nice, but I seem to constantly get T10 games in it, so it gets poo poo on a lot by ridiculous ships that I can't range on while they are killing me half the time.
