Just played a few rounds of ranked and I hate it because my first would-be victory was cut off by lag. In all seriousness, I think the meta needs time to form, but the race to claiming first and pushing the advantage is super intense and I love it.

The easiest thing to do at Urchin Underpass once you have the area is to just sit there with your roller and wait for someone to pop in and splat them away. Chances are the rest of your team will bother finding other people if you just keep hold of the fort itself and utilize corners. But honestly, I'm going to hit C because if I don't, I'll hate myself, then I'm never playing again.

Btw new map should be roller heaven there is so much area to cover and blind turns all over where you can see weapon people firing down the way. Super easy to wait and punk them

"Let's make an intense heavily teamwork oriented gametype in a game where you can't communicate or play with your friends, also you lose rank progress if your team is poo poo" That's basically ranked in a nutshell, you're fine at C rank but once you move up to B it gets a lot more intense and harder to win, I've been on a win-lose, win-lose, win-lose streak for the past hour now, I've made 0 progress on the rank bar thing.

It's really insane how much of an advantage the defenders have in Splat Zone. Being able to just be invisible 80% of the time is huge, and most of the zones seem to just be death pits where the attackers will just have a revolving door of dead players.

yeah, i just joined a match where one of our players just sat at the spawn and did nothing the entire time. i got 10 kills and 2 deaths, but we lost because that fucker didn't do anything

Freaking LOVE the new map, especially as a roller player. Got my first 1200+ score my first time playing on it. Also tried Ranked and I really dig it but I had a pretty different experience to you guys. The other team got down to 34 before we took it from them and then managed to defend well even with 2-3 of them having inkstrikes.

The defenders have an obscenely stronger advantage on Saltspray Rig than Urchin Underpass, Inkstrikes notwithstanding. You're on top of a hill, with blind corners the attackers have to come around, and the only other way in is a small ledge that is very easy to arc paint up onto. It's also a small-enough area that everybody can watch eachother's backs. Urchin Underpass is a lot harder to hold (and far more fun) because you've got three different spread-apart places to jump in from at any given time (though of course everybody's just gotta bum-rush over that hill into Seekers and waiting ink splats), and with the Zone in the pit it's much easier for the other team to spray frantically.

the ranked penalty system makes no sense. like i understand the draw of having more competitive matches but ink strike can completely gently caress over a team that's dominated 75% of the match as it stands right now. there really should be 2 points on each map to ease up the congestion and make alternate routes worthwhile

Hell, Saltspray Rig's practically built to have two of them.

What kind of loadout are my Roller bros preferring? I just can't settle on anything, for either mode. Obviously Ninja Squid is great, and I'd probably like Stealth Super Jump, but other than that nothing seems to really jump out at me. Defense Up seems largely useless, as if you're going to die you're going to die. Damage Up doesn't seem particularly useful as a roller as I'd like to just one-shot anyway. Maybe Run Speed?

Run speed absolutely, and I always like quick respawn for anything.

I hear all these people talking about rollers in the new zones, but the best weapon for the area is the ink wall. Watching a bulldozer seal someone in a kill box is the best.

I will agree saltspray is a very bad map for ranked unless the bottom area was given a zone, then it would become beautifully insane. I don't agree about the Inkstrikes though, they may disrupt the zone for a moment but unless you have some control over it the defenders will undo that work in 3s. I did plenty of times. Hell I'd be firing into the drat effect since I knew no one was near enough to stop me. Edit: I'll go as far to say if your always using a strike on the zone you're doing it wrong. It's more useful to displace players usually, expecially chargers on a ledge LethalGeek fucked around with this message at 06:26 on Jun 2, 2015 |

I played 6-7 ranked games and never won a single one. In fact, I never got coins in a single one of those. I don't know if I should just give up on trying to play that or what. I figure if I'm losing that badly that often, the problem is probably me, but I don't know what to do about that.

The buffer timer keeps sudden blasts like the Ink Strike from being irreversible table-turners. Every single ranked match I tried had someone try that stunt but we took the point back right after, since my teams had people who fought around it and not directly on top of it.

Regarding the four-hour map rotation and the girls doing the news update, I'm idly wondering if they're hiding a discreet server refresh behind it just to keep the hardware running properly.
