The worst thing about that image is that it reminds me how few shows have good gay relationships without falling into the category of the yaoi/yuri romance sub-genre's.
There's like Bodacious Space Pirates and ???

I don't think it's too atypical of shoujo. Like Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon have multiple gay and lesbian relationships with recurring secondary characters.

this is why you can't really blame people for seeing a lot where only a bit exists. as a lesbian, i like stories about lesbians. sometimes stories that aren't explicitly about lesbianism have enough ambiguity in a specific relationship that i read it that way, because it makes the show more enjoyable for me, and it's not like there are a whole lot of anime for me to turn to when i want explicitly lesbian stories. this isn't a requirement for me to enjoy something but i'd be lying if i said i didn't see it as a plus.

yes. neither was very good. sakura trick felt kind of exploitative in how often the girls just up and made out for no real reason, like every time their relationship was supposed to develop they just swapped spit instead. obviously couples kiss, a lot, but iunno sakura trick felt kind of over-focused on it and the way it was animated/voice acted was a little over the top. and strawberry panic was pretty boring

sakura trick led to this tho

My fiancee's best friend only likes anime of card games she plays and lesbian animes.

She keeps trying to get my fiancee to watch more anime with her, but her pitch has always been the same. "Hey, this show is really cute and it's about these two girls and the one is just like you and the other is just like me and they like to kiss a lot! C'mon let's watch it!" and fiancee is like "ughh noo" and then gets called a homophobe for not liking the animes lol

also my thing is that while i like romantic comedy or romantic drama well enough so many yuri shows - and manga - are *just* that. like something with yuri isn't allowed to have an actual plot, it's just gotta be about the relationship. as opposed to something about, iunno, dragons and wizards and poo poo that also has a lesbian main character.

Sign's the only one I ever cared to stick with and while it is definitely not action packed and could have been finished a few episodes quicker than it was, I thought that it did an overall good job of being a show about a bunch of friends getting together and talking in an mmorpg while trying to do net detectiving to solve mysteries. Good music too.

To balance all the lesbian talk, the first convention I went to I ended up rooming with a bunch of girls from the university anime club that Kinky Cookie Bunny was part of. KCB brought me along because the con was during valentines day so while we were spending valentines day together one of the other girls in the room started talking about how she bought a whole bunch of gay anime porn at the merch hall and kept talking with one of the other girls about how yaoi stuff is automatically better than yuri because they have better stories and they have romance and basically they were trying to justify why their porn was better and had more heart and substance than other porn. One of the defenders was a lesbian which I thought was kinda strange but whatever floats her boat. So they're all "we bought some yaoi porn dvds at the merchant hall and we're gonna watch them" and I'm just like "ok later I'm going to sleep." Then I had a seizure while I was sleeping so the EMTs had to keep checking on me so they never got to watch their gay anime porn lol

tbh i pretty much only know about sakura trick because every lesbian/bi/bi-curious girl with even mildly weeb tendencies i know was loving obsessed with that poo poo while it was airing for whatever reason, like AoT levels of "holy gently caress watch something else for a day please"

i guess the fact that it's just nothing but hell of makeouts probably drew them in, idk, not gonna judge

Strawberry Panic was a show riding on the coattails of the mid 2000's popularity of Marimite only someone went 'what if a couple of characters are actually lesbians instead of *nudgenudge winkwink* good friends', so they took a LN/manga so bad it got canned after a couple of volumes and turned it into an anime so generically yuri that's it might have been written by throwing darts at a board with Brother, Dear Brother plot points written on it.
