Endorph posted:this is why you can't really blame people for seeing a lot where only a bit exists. as a lesbian, i like stories about lesbians. sometimes stories that aren't explicitly about lesbianism have enough ambiguity in a specific relationship that i read it that way, because it makes the show more enjoyable for me, and it's not like there are a whole lot of anime for me to turn to when i want explicitly lesbian stories. this isn't a requirement for me to enjoy something but i'd be lying if i said i didn't see it as a plus. how do you feel about high school totally-not-lesbians playing mahjong? I ask because Saki was at one point my favorite anime of all time and gave me feels.

I liked Saki okay but as with all sub-texty stuff it would have been better if they just kissed.

Endorph posted:also my thing is that while i like romantic comedy or romantic drama well enough so many yuri shows - and manga - are *just* that. like something with yuri isn't allowed to have an actual plot, it's just gotta be about the relationship. as opposed to something about, iunno, dragons and wizards and poo poo that also has a lesbian main character. That's why El Cazador de la Bruja is one of my favorites. A very non-ambiguous relationship between the two female leads by the end, but the actual plot is about magic and stuff and traveling across a Mexico-like environment. Backed up by a fantastic Kajiura soundtrack, no less.

I'm sure someday soon kyoani will animate Girl Friends. And someone will animate the rest of Sasameki Koto. someday soon

Give me one of those 3 minute episode shows for Collectors, anime. Also maybe this is just confirmation bias, but yuri stuff seems like it generally has more variety in art styles than the other romance (for lack of a better word) genres.

I don't think I've watched any yuri or yaoi stuff. Give it a year or so for me to fall deeper into this anime hell.

I love sports shows where the players have actual super heroes, but I stopped reading Saki at some point... dont know why. The girl who turned invisible was cool.

how is that even relevant to mahjong

She can make herself not get noticed by anyone at the table so they discard her winning tile all the time.

Basically she's like Kuroko from the basketball show, except a gay girl instead of a gay guy.

I wish Kurko's Basketball wasn't utter poo poo, but instead it was good, so I could enjoy it, instead of resenting it.

I liked the mahjong player with the cosmic eye power, I forget what it did but it was intense when it happened.

Saki really is bullshit. Imagine being a normal mahjong playing person and going to any tournament, and finding yourself up against some girl possessed by demonic ghosts who are killer at mahjong, or someone whose playing ability is determined by the phases of the moon.

I think Escaflowne was the most fun I had during a simulwatch, besides maybe the Kurosawa one. It was at least the only one I bothered to try to watch at the same time as everyone else.

I understand very little about mahjong beyond it being vaguely comparable to poker, but that hasn't stopped me from reading a ton of Fukumoto stuff involving it.

idk anything about escaflowne. one time I asked a friend what escaflowne was but I forgot the name except the esca part and a post i saw mentioning esca something so when i asked him about it I got the name wrong and he's like "that's porn" how embarassing
