Never shot .45-70. I do have a Mosin. Is it a similar kick to 7.62x54?

The Marlin lever action guide gun will kick like a god drat mule with a decent load in it. But a heavy single shot sharps will not have much recoil to it. If you ever do get a chance to shoot a Sharps rife, do it. They are a ton of fun because minimal recoil and they put a bullet where you tell them.

The muzzle energies would put those 325gr Hornady rounds at ~10% more powerful than a normal 7.62x54 round.

I've only fired a .45-70 single shot that was quite heavy and it didn't kick near as badly as my .243 blr takedown

That may be her. Different grips, but same gun. Not 100% postive, but, yeah. Things a hoot to shoot though. But it will loving mess up your day if you don't know how to grip a pistol properly. Technically more, but it's a far slower impulse, so it's more like a hard shove than someone punching you in the shoulder. Edit: given a .45-70 rifle, or basically any rifle in a round that was originally black powder, then shouldering it as tightly as possible will significantly reduce felt recoil. I've fired 200gr of BP out of my .50 flintlock, and it wasn't actually bad at all, just shoved my shoulder back about eight inches. Because they are inexpensive rifles (or at least used to be) so they are often some of the first things past a 22/17HMR that people get to shoot. 300 Win Mag on a hunting profile barrel without a brake will teach 762x54R (and your shoulder) a lesson.

Our gun laws here are a magical clusterfuck. Want an AK? Cant have them, banned by name. Except for one make by one company in Finland in the 70s. Can't take a pistol out into the woods, but you can go hunting with a T-72(a literal tank) just fine.

Got a few ditch diggin sessions in this afternoon between engagements. Across the entrance: Around the corner: Came back after dinner with the family and went halfway down the side: Badger is helping. Found what I assume is an earthing wire? Glad I didn't rent that trencher. Bit more to go before I start grading: Real talk. Ditch digging is therapeutic as gently caress.

Hole in my yard got longer: It rained yesterday, and the open ditch did its job: However, those ruts had pools in them for a few hours. Should I fill them in or expand the gravel pit? Here's the slope that's bringing it all to the entrance: In TFR news: Went shooting with a friend of mine today. Finally got to pop a few rounds through that 45-70! AK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TiUUqroyz0 45-70: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxSU99iCeME She shot five rounds. I shot five rounds. The people in the adjacent lanes shot nine rounds. The range marshal shot a round. Not a bad way to burn money. Also my shoulder is sore.

Badger helped: This is like, 6 bags of gravel. I vastly underestimated the amount I'd be needing: TIME FOR MORE GRAVEL: Camacho took a dump in the Lowes' parking lot. Good boy: 28 bags of gravel later: End spout is about halfway down the side of the garage. After which I stopped caring about drainage: Filled in: I'll let the dirt and gravel settle down a bit, compact it down, then put paving stones over top the garage entrance section, unless someone has a better idea.
