I may check it out tonight, haven't watched anything by the Wachowskis in a while, wouldn't mind some sci-fi/Tae Kwon Do with good cinematography. I think every movie they've made since the first matrix has been kind of trash so I don't have high hopes for sense8, but I'll check it out anyway. Gotta give stuff a chance.

Yeah sense8 is pretty loving awesome so far. The only Wachowski movie it reminds me of is Bound, albeit with a super weird over-arcing plot.

The Wachowski's own and so does Sense8. At least from the one episode I've seen.

I dunno, if this doesn't finish well I probably won't go for a third episode. Chichevache fucked around with this message at 03:43 on Jun 6, 2015 |

Why would you give us an update on your thoughts halfway through the second episode, and then say "I dunno things might change" instead of just giving us your thoughts when the episode finishes like a normal sensible rational human being you god drat weirdo.

I've seen 3 episodes of Sens8 so far and honestly it's pretty decent, it has much more personal and grounded storytelling than their typical stuff and definitely benefits from it. It has the same problem as Game of Thrones though in that there are too many concurrent stories going on to give them the full attention they require, so just like a threesome, someone ends up feeling left out. Thankfully though Sense8 has kind of a neat conceit tying it all together so maybe that aspect will lessen somewhat.

It seems that a bunch of van Damme stuff just went up on US Netflix, and some Dolph Lundgren flick where it looks like he's the evil psycho killer. Watched el Gringo with Scott Adkins ("Ze most complete fighter in ze vowlrd!" guy from the Undisputed titles, and the inimitable Ninja II: White Man's Boogaloo) and it feel almost like it ought to be in the same group as Zombeavers. It has some of the most amazingly shot sweaty close-ins of cleavage that I've seen in a while, and Adkins doesn't really do much martial arts (I went in expecting to see a a bunch of no-name latin MMA guys as his opponents, looking for lots of punching and jump-kicking) and takes the role of an ex cop. It's good dumb fun, despite tossing in name-plates for the characters as they are introduced (spoiler: everyone's name is a cliche). It was an interesting movie and I'm not entirely sure what they were going for. Was it a Mexican movie about Americans being loving stupid? Or was it an American movie about killing dozens of people for a bag of cash, with a twist ending and great song? It's a dumb movie. It was fun. Christian Slater is in it, he sniffs boot prints a lot, and shouts "DEA!" coyo7e fucked around with this message at 06:39 on Jun 6, 2015 |

I went back to Sens8. If you were expecting anything to actually happen you will have to wait nearly 3 episodes. It takes them almost 2 hours of "character development" to actually get into what might make this premise interesting.

Yeah I got 6 episodes in and started to think "when are they going to get to the point?" Most of the episodes are an hour long and there's a lot of slow mo camera pans where they're doing lame actor swaps, poo poo you'd probably cut for time in broadcast TV, and with good reason, they don't need to be there. I'll probably drop the show soon if poo poo doesn't start actually happening. There's almost a film student level of self indulgence, it's kinda irritating.

Sense8 actually kinda picks up in pace immediately after episode 6. I almost flipped on this show, but nah it's still pretty good. So far the only actor I don't like out of the main cast is the trans character, I have nothing against trans characters or anything, she's just not a very good actor. The reliance on slow mo shots sorta rubs me the wrong way too but I guess that's the show's style at this point.

The only way to stretch them out was with slow-motion. And, we tried to keep the slow-motion away from the dialogue as much as possible, but anything without dialogue was considered for slow-motion.” - Lana Wachowski not actually, but I am always reminded of that quote whenever there's excessive slo-mo

Also it's hilarious how everyone's English is so good in Mexico and Korea lol. At least in India and Africa the accents are on point (I would assume). The Mexican characters have some amazing English and and English accents it kinda takes me out sometimes.

Edit I forgot the best line in the show, "this is mexico! In Mexico you hit your woman to make her respect you!"

The trans hacktivist isn't written poorly, but I have to agree that she's not a very good actress. I actually thought her scene in the beginning when she was on MDMA with her girlfriend was well done, but she kind of goes downhill after that. Lito (the gay telenovela guy) and Cacheus (the African bus driver) are by far the best. e: Sun (Korean lady) is also amazing

Yeah the problem with the trans character is that the script is perfectly fine, but the actress they have playing her (a real rear end trans woman) is just not very good. Kind of a bummer. Everyone else is great, even the woman who plays Riley pulls of shy and closed off super well. I'm super gay for Lito even though I'm super straight.

Lots of people all over the world think that, it's just kind of tactless way to write that line. That character is far more about a broken idea of masculinity so emphasis should be on his idea that men are free to abuse women, mexico has little to do with it.

Crank the volume to hear everyone speaking in whispers and end up shaking the whole apartment when something goes boom. I like Tom Segura's Completely Normal. Has anyone else watched Dawg Fight? Nomi's character in general strikes me as a little ridiculous and "HOW DO I REACH THESE KEEEEEEDS," and would definitely come off that way from other writers, but I'm cutting them a lot of slack on that for what should be a fairly blindingly obvious reason.

A trans woman living in san francisco who hacks and has a activist blog sounds like a hilarious cliche, but...those people exist. Sometimes we ask writers to reel stuff in, not because it's too crazy or unbelievable, but because reality can be uncomfortable. I have no problem with the character but I'm sure there's a reddit thread somewhere with assholes losing their goddamn poo poo.
