How about a return to Outworld with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation? Or perhaps a dip into the wonders of a later era Resident Evil sequel?

I haven't decided which one yet but I'm definitely gonna call in some hosed up 90s kids movies.

Would they consider something like Zardoz ? Or is that the wrong kind of bad for their style?

They make a point of trying not to do the movies that have already been covered by other podcasts/bad movie sites

Bolek posted:How about a return to Outworld with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation We did this for my podcast, and it was one of the harder movies we've reviewed. The plot is very hard to step through, because none of it makes sense. Characters enter and leave having added nothing. Describing the terrible acting of James Remar is difficult to say the least. And it's also hard to explain just how overall cheap the whole thing looks. It's the only movie I've had a hard time really summing up what is so bad about it. Because it legit does not feel like a movie, but a SyFy pilot.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation is absolutely hilarious, but I'm not sure if it's good for a podcast, yeah. Mostly because nothing about it except the plot really sounds bad on paper; it's just all so utterly botched in the execution.

Doctor Giggles. It's 90s as gently caress, and I cannot divorce Larry Drake from the sweetly retarded Benny Stulwicz from LA Law. It's pretty bad, and chock full of bad CGI and "funny" one liners. I'm honestly surprised they haven't done it yet. I would think White Oleander would be a goody, but apparently it was a fairly well received film. I think it's gross, overwrought grief porn, but I guess it's just safe to write it off as not being made for me.

I always want to call in a movie but never do. I just think there's so many rolling around in my head to choose from that I can't settle on one. Mean Guns. It's got Ice-T, Christopher Lambert, wall-to-wall mambo music, and it's an absolute gas. The Projection Booth already did an OK episode where they interviewed the director, but the hosts are pretty boring and nebbishy. I'd love to hear the WHM crew sink their teeth into it.

I need to remember to call in 1986's Terrorvision. A cheesy '80s horror film starring Gerrit "Bud the C.H.U.D." Graham and John Gries from Joy Sticks. I mean, just listen to the opening theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkzjYB8fuos edit: Had to fix the link

It's always been about potential comedy way more than a good/bad movie thing. What are they going to do, silly Henry Cavill impressions? The side episode Andrew and Steve did about Batfleck is great but it's not like a WHM episode at all, it's just a nerdy conversation between two interesting and funny people. I've always wanted them to do MK Annihilation since the MK episode is probably my favorite, but I'll also admit that there's much less comedy to be mined there too. I pretty much just want to hear them riff on all the extra characters brought over from the games in that one, especially after cracking up over the Rain namedrop they did in some other episode. But there aren't any notable actors to make fun of or impersonate, no real cheesy lines, no bizarre plot points. On the flip side of the coin, as much as Steve broke my heart when he said Hook was the worst Spielberg with zero hesitation, I could easily imagine a hilarious episode being done on that film regardless of how good you think it is.

Actually, Annihilation is almost nothing but cheesy lines and bizarre plot points, it's just that they're all... kinda hard to describe, really, or don't sound that bad out of context. A WHM on it would mostly be the crew going "we have no idea what the gently caress we just watched" for an hour.

It would probably make a better HDTGM episode than WHM, yeah. At least partially because the director's probably somewhat easy to find and having him on board would actually provide something to talk about other than "jesus christ that made no loving sense." Which is why I'm (still) calling in Punisher War Zone, because it's enough fun that I'm pretty sure WHM could mine gold out of it without even touching any of what HDTGM covered.

These movies would probably fit more in Side Order of Sleaze but I'd also love to hear them talk about the baffling comedy Sorority Boys or one of the direct to video American Pie sequels. I've seen them all, and they are terrible.

Yeah, I'm calling in Punisher because it's bonkers, not because it's bad. A movie just has to be interesting to be on WHM, I'm pretty sure.

I suspect that Pyun has a bit more self-awareness than Boll. Pyun is a sleazier Roger Corman to Boll's jumped up Ed Wood. Actually, now that I think about it, "sleezier Roger Corman" is Russ Myers. So Pyun is a sleezier Russ Myers and that's an accomplishment worth celebrating.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is an unbelievable drop off in quality from the first movie. As has been mentioned it's incomprehensible and amazingly incompetent. Even at a fairly young age I recognized how bad the Native American mysticism stuff was. It's like the vision quest scene from Wayne's World 2, but played straight. It had some bizarre magical subway system that ran across the world and looked terrible. They also kill Johnny Cage in the first five minutes because they couldn't coax Linden Ashby to return in the role. Also, Animalities! (Terrible CGI creations fighting) I saw this poo poo in theaters because the theater manager was an rear end in a top hat, and pinched us trying to sneak into an R rated movie (that movie was Alien Ressurection, so it wasn't that much of a trade down). It also meant that my friend might be the only person on Earth who saw Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in theaters more than once.

Man, 1997 was kind of a lovely year for blockbusters. Lost World, Speed 2, Batman and Robin, Air Force One, Steel, Spawn, Kull the Conqueror, and then a brief period of respite before the double-punch of Alien: Resurrection and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, then Tomorrow Never Dies and The Postman to round it out. Has any year had that many below-average to gently caress-awful "major movie events" before? Like, in hindsight I almost think Titanic did so well because it was a breath of fresh air after the unholy Shitmageddon that was the latter half of that year. e: You could make a solid argument that said Shitmageddon started in March of that year; Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, The Saint (which premiered opposite Double Team, though I really like that movie), Anaconda, Volcano, and Warriors of Virtue all came out within weeks of each other, and then Lost World was like a week or two after Warriors of Virtue. Literally the only blockbusters from that year that are commonly well-received are Men in Black and Titanic, which came out almost 6 months apart. I'd say good candidates would be Masters of the Universe, Howard the Duck, Pearl Harbor, Van Helsing, The Happening, Wild Wild West, Waterworld, Hudson Hawk, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Charlie's Angels 2... Van Helsing is my personal pick.
