These days a character like that would be a lovely strawman or something the writer wants to make fun of, it's good that Nomi is a positive character. There's nuance to her character even if the surface details are a little cliched. Too bad there's no nuance to the acting.

After the interview she did on Inside Amy Schumer, I'm convinced they should have just hired Bailey Jay for that role.

I once lived with someone that would play that song several times a day and now I can't loving stand it. I'm sure unsullied that scene is great fun but for me it was nails down a chalkboard.

Hits is mostly just boring.

On the Road is up, the one with Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart. It's not as bad as it could have been, it's totally watchable. If nothing else, it's good looking and the music is alright. And it mercifully doesn't have a ton of hep Beat poetry voiceover like every other Kerouac-related film does.

I just stumbled upon We the Economy on Netflix. It is a simple, but entertaining series that has around 20 brief episodes, each focusing on different economic ideas. The episodes have different directors and there are a multitude of celebrities and economic academics that show up throughout.

The Great Escape must have been recently added on Netflix, and if you've never seen it, make sure to check it out! It's one of my favorite films ever and is a very accurate retelling of an Allied escape from a German POW camp in World War II starring Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, and James Garner.

The Roosevelts: An Intimate History is getting pulled from Amazon Prime in 6 days, so if you've got the urge to watch a recent 6-part, 12-hour Ken Burns' documentary about Teddy, Franklin, Eleanor et al., you should jump on that. I'm only now getting around to it and enjoying it. Tons of various aspects of American history as well.

Aw, I liked Hits. It's disappointing to see people hating it.

Speaking of movies I saw at Sundance and haven't heard from again until they popped up on Netflix, Killers appears to be up and I quite like that movie. It's by the guy who did the cult segment in V/H/S/2 that isn't Gareth Evans. If you like I Saw the Devil it kind of scratches that same itch (though I actually liked Killers more). I do feel I should mention the person that saw it with me loving hated it but your results may vary.

Also, I've been behind on this thread but is there any word why all the Comedy Central stuff seems to have been taken off of Prime. I was in the middle of watching stuff and want to know if it's gonna come back anytime soon or if I shoudl seek alterate methods of watching this stuff. A quick google search did not enlighten me about any of this.

It just feels like someone, somewhere would mention that. There was mo indication at all this stuff was going way so it's just kind of annoying. Netflix gets poo poo for only warning like a month in advance and every time it loses anything the internet seems to throw a small fit so it's obnoxious that prime lost a huge amount if their content with no indication anywhere. Ah well, I guess that's one advantage to having a streaming service that isn't actually that popular.

After writing all that I'm now just waiting for it to be revealed the error is on my end or everything is actually back up.

He is totally the best character.

The show feels like they tries very hard to get a broad swath of cultures and then attempted to represent them as much as the wachowskis can understand them, but Nomi is pretty alright if for no other fact than it is kind of novel to not have the hacker be an adorkable chick or insufferable pencil neck geek. A lot of the Mexican stuff is pretty ridiculous stereotyping from some white folks, as well. The later stuff in India is pretty clumsy, why was there full male frontal for one person only in the entire season? And at the end of the season I was left scratching my head on a few things like (Capheus) how and when did the Superpowers gang nab the big drug kingpin guy? Didn't that dude have bodyguards and helicopters and poo poo? The gang had like 2 trucks and some guns. I was so surprised that guy was tied up there, that I mistook him for the dude who got his hands cut off a few episodes earlier.

Ideally enjoyed how low budget the first few episodes are, a lot of the backdrops are so clearly bad greensceeen that it's hilarious. And the orgy scene had me in tears.

I can't wait until people get to the final few episodes and I get to hear what they think of the 9-way flashback birth

The last few episodes are really something, I didn't expect to see full in view shots of women's vaginas as they're giving birth, including a full birthing scene with a vagina in frame but my reaction wasn't quite as visceral as I thought it might be, turns out it's no more graphic than some of the stuff that gets shown on TV, there's just a weird taboo about it. Naked bits and whatnot. Ew gross! I haven't had the experience of witnessing it irl but I assume even what was shown here was tame in comparison to the real thing.

Anyway, after finishing the first season I'm giving the show a tentative thumbs up but I might stew on it a while and come out with a completely different opinion. But for now, I like it, it's flawed and unsubtle and self indulgent, but there's heart here. It's not a pretentious shitfest like the latter Matrix movies, it's not just a weird stupid clusterfuck like...everything else the Wachowskis have made. It is a bit weird, it is a bit stupid, but it's sincere and that counts for something.

Truth.

Hits was a mess. So many plot threads introduced and dropped moments later.

I get the feeling David Cross just didn't know how to say "no" to his zany friends, who all had ideas about where they were going to take their characters, none of which panned out..

I love Capheus not because of all the goofy Kenyan van caper stuff, as much as for how he is when he visits the others. He's just this unremitting ray of joy and acceptance and no matter where the gently caress he ends up he's super-stoked to see it because he just has no idea that he could ever leave his home..
