Having more controls on the wheel itself is a welcome step - the d-pad and dial positioned where they are looks tremendously useful for adjusting settings without having to take your hands off the wheel.

Dropping the shifter from the standard package and charging the same as (or more than) the full G27 is clearly a problem though

Also it looks like they're adding two more car classes for the new cars. I presume the Ibiza and 306 are just a "kitcar" class, but what's the name for the class that has the Manta and 037?

I loving hate Monaco, but these new Germany tracks are loving amazing and i really have to give it to the devs they're doing an amazing job, cant wait until the end of the month when it comes out. Watched the first ten minutes and who knew driving a car was harder than flying a plane. You ought to get a patent on your 540 degree method of doing hairpins.

Does look like a pretty good change of pace from Monaco (wider, but bumpier), except that the roads are still lined with various deathtraps that'll murder your car if you catch a quarter panel on one as you try to blaze around a bend.

My first iRace was going well until I noticed a crash behind me, which I assumed was somehow my fault, and pulled over to let the rest of the field pass me. 15 more laps and one annoying slow bastard who wouldn't let me pass later, I checked the replay. :downsrim:

If it happens in your mirrors, it's not your fault. :colbert:

I mean yeah they might bitch at you for braking too early or puttering around a corner old folks style, but it's the responsibility of the person in back to avoid accidents.

The only real exception I can think of is if they are 100% going to pass you and you cut them off.

Yeah, don't do that. Unless the game tells you to slow down, you're in the clear. If you don't get any incident points, it's not your fault no matter what anyone else says.

After sorting out my FFB issue with Project Cars I'm really enjoying the driving, although there's still a little of that weightless feeling that plagued the Shift series. It varies by car though. The AI is a bit disappointing in that they seem to have at least one fast corner per track that they just crawl around at least 20mph below racing speed.

While I was signing up for the Dirt league I saw they're adding Rallycross to the game next month and I'm really excited for that.

Also I finally bought a wheel! A used G27 at a decent price finally popped up. :toot:

It uses the Dirt 3 engine with a couple things tacked on so you should be fine. I have an i5+770 and it runs everything on max at 60 fps.

Nope, sorry, just 1080p. If you could run Dirt 3 no problem than you can run Dirt Rally no problem, though.

Same here, I've gotten pretty okay with the Mini in Career, and now I'm using the Escort mkII, but that Impreza was fun as all hell.

Dirt rally is loving hard at first, spent 15 minutes playing it so far. I can't figure out which buttons map out to what on my Logi Gforce GT though. On the screen it just says button 1 button 2 etc, but no clue what that is on my wheel.

So iracing has no events with the miata or solstice at the moment. Wtf? That leaves me with spec ford races, and I hate driving that thing in base form.

Edit: So when racing this spec ford, it seems like the only way to plant the car is under throttle. Should I be treating it like a motorcycle and doing all my braking before any steering input then get back on the throttle lightly during turn in ? This just seems like one of those vehicles that doesn't lend itself well to sim racing without feeling gforces.

Edit edit: maybe the devs felt that everyone were just getting stuck using miatas.

I gave R3E another go after the recent updates and find myself really enjoying it for the first time. Since rF2 continues to be ramshackle and Kunos so far hasn't inspired confindence in them getting AI together anytime soon, R3E suddenly seems like it might turn out to be a real contender for me. Maybe not in the sophistication of its physics, but certainly as a solid single player racing experience.

What wheel rotation are you guys using for dirt rally? I just bought it and I've not quite found a perfect one yet - I've tried 540 and it feels like I have too much rotation but also it doesn't feel precise enough which has stumped me a bit...

All sims should do what iracing does and control the wheel rotation within software, meaning that you can set it at 900 degrees or whatever in the driver software and leave it there forever with the sim dynamically changing it depending on whatever car you are driving. Would make it miles easier to set up and also mean that you don't have to reconfigure everything when you decide to switch sim...

Fayez Butts
Aug 24, 2006

I saw a review somewhere that said that Dirt Rally currently doesn't support high degree wheels and that about 300 degrees is the best. If you have a g27 or g25 you can do this https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g27-g25-dfgt-undocumented-wheel-lock-settings-guide.286646/

Project CARS and Assetto Corsa do it that way too. I'm really hoping that the FFB patch they've been talking about will include wheel soft lock.
