Derek Dominoe posted:, Mongols. If you haven't listened to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcasts on the Mongols you really really should. I never thought I'd have the patience for like... 48+ hours of straight history podcastin', but I've listened to all his free stuff now. It's really entertaining. Also Blueprint for Armageddon VI is out!!??!? Thank's for prompting me to check!

Seconding Dan Carlin's podcast. It's really good, blueprint for armageddon is intense. Particularly the part about paschndalle(sp?). The prospect of sinking into mud after being wounded is... troubling. Someone said in another thread that being infantry in WW1 was the shittiest time to be a grunt, I think they are right.

Nostalgia4Butts posted:on my way to steal your girl That is rad as hell. Also whoever posted pages ago about the jammer pods on EA-6 (and Growlers for that matter). The emitters aren't powered by the host aircraft electrical system. If you look there are props on the pods that are connected to generators.

Carlin is just intense in general. I enjoy his podcasts, but the dude is like breathless in his dark intensity. One topic that it lends well to was his series on the eastern front in wwii. The scope of that is really hard to underestimate. I recommend listening to it on a long drive alone in the dark. The part about the pocket around stalking rad was especially evocative. The wounded lying around waiting to be evacuated, guys shooting themselves in the foot to be evac'd. The evac planes being shot down on takeoff.... dark stuff.

The other components are powered by the host AC. http://www.ausairpower.net/TE-Tacjammer.html Is what I could find for open source stuff. So we'll just leave it at that.

Dead Reckoning posted:And the Pittsburgh ANG does not give a gently caress: In general the ANG has way cooler nose/tail/airplane art than AD. Part of that is the fact that their sup to the AFI that governs aircraft painting is way looser than the parent AFI that governs AD. The rest would be the fact that the Guard, in general, does not give a gently caress.

Genocide Tendency posted:Wait... If a carrier is conducting flight ops in a relatively high sea state, the catapult officer/shooter has to time directing the catapult to fire just right in order to make sure the carrier is in a crest and not a trough by the time the plane is at the end of the flight deck. Sometimes their timing is a little off.
