i remember being really confused about the plot really, FF7 did a bunch of stuff very neatly, based around a fairly solid gameplay system with reasonably good characters. i'm p. sure it was a lot of people's first exposure to stuff like unreliable narrators, DEEPLY PROBLEMATIC romantic relationships etc the main character is also explicitly a depressed psycho which is also sort of cool imo
