There's a video game sequel you can play that assumes you won the first one, it's called Literally Every Other Video Game Sequel.

It's p. salty to assert that the game, regardless of its overall quality, will be "smeared" because it took a narrative chance instead of acknowledging your Uncharacteristically Crushing XCOM Victory. That's my verdict and I'm sticking to it.

So have they said whether Shen, Vahlen, and Sweater Guy are making a comeback? I kind of hope they are.

On a different note, Beagle has a Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff shirt, meaning he is (probably) a Homestuck fan. This is a thing I found interesting.

He's not, he's mentioned it on the stream before. Doesn't care for Homestuck but loves SBaHJ. Which makes sense, even if it's another name to be sadly crossed off the list of people who are over 14 and potentially like Homestuck.

Vanilla doesn't crash. Your computer has a problem.

Long War is way more intense than the vanilla game. No surprise that it may crash when the vanilla game doesn't. Long War is stressing your computer.
Basically, your computer is looking for 1+1= 2 and the answer it is receiving is 3. Your computer isn't calculating things right and the game is crashing. Don't be mad at me or the Long War mods.

Basically SB&HJ is pretty funny/on the nose to anyone who was around during the earliest days of webcomics, and Homestuck is bloated enough that everyone can find a few choice nuggets of humor for them in it no matter how much they find the rest of it tedious and confusing.

The important thing to note here is that Homestuck is tedious, confusing and bloated.

The other guys I can take or leave, but Vahlen's (scientist girl)'s sheer joy in alien torture was a treat, IMO.

As to why they'd return? They're part of the titular organization, and at least two of them were young enough that kicking around another couple decades keeping the lights on doesn't really strain credulity at all.

They already said that they figured out the basic game systems first and then worked on a story to suit them. Guerilla warfare means aliens are in charge which means xcom had to have lost. Trying to make the game fun and interesting without worrying about internet subhumans bitching and moaning is a good plan. Also, said subhumans were always gonna buy or pirate the game anyway so why bother trying to appeal to them?

Hopefully one of the early missions will involve finding and defrosting Bradford and co who cryogenically froze themselves when the aliens invaded. It just wouldn't be XCOM without Vahlen chiding you for killing aliens with grenades.

If Vahlen isn't the chief scientist, I hope at least that she's leading a protest group trying to get the aliens to stop using explosive armaments against rebels.

It is neat when games go with the bad ending, though I've only ever seen it done with the shadow hearts series of games. Did the devs already say that xcom 2 is a sequel to the bad ending of xcom enemy unknown? If they haven't, then there are still plenty of other ways the alien menace could have taken over the earth between games.

:spergin: the XCOM council/steering committee is only 16 countries. Palau or whatever doesn't contribute § or get a vote.

I don't think it should be identical, but having at least one of the NPCs from the last one make an appearance would be a nice connecting thread and touchstone for relating what happened in the intervening 20 years.

It's unclear at the moment. On the one hand they've been saying that canonically you played classic ironman first and lost, cue X-COM 2, and that X-COM never developed the advanced technology to fight back against the aliens. On the other hand, they've been saying the Volunteer is missing and definitely not dead, which implies that X-COM won so it's anyone's guess right now.

My personal theory is that you did win Enemy Unknown, but then lost when the rest of the aliens showed up.

I figured if anything they were going for something like what Terror From The Deep did where you won and then lost pretty much all of your funding and were converted to a much smaller organization and then the aliens show up again and you're just a small thing having to work your way back up again

I always liked the back-of-box blurb for Freespace 2:

quote:

The year is 2367, thirty two years after the Great War. Or at least that is what YOU thought was the Great War. The endless line of Shivan capital ships, bombers and fighters with super advanced technology was nearly overwhelming.

As the Terran and Vasudan races finish rebuilding their decimated societies, a disturbance lurks in the not-so-far reaches of the Gamma Draconis system.

Your nemeses have arrived... and they are wondering what happened to their scouting party.

I'm not sure why they thought blowing up the temple ship would completely stop the invasion and prevent any future attacks. Hell, what could've happened is that you did somehow kill off the ethereal race or it's leadership then another group of aliens takes over the multispecies alliance, or they have a democratic council. Shen does talk about the long term affects and rehabilitation necessary for re-integrating psychics back into society and we basically had all those human variants with the Enemy Within expansion. With all the references to genetic modification in the trailer, we really ought to have hybrids again. Maybe pure humans develop more class talents and hybrids would also unlock genemods? I'd be ok with having the SHIV units be straight up robots/androids. So only five more months to go!
