i think the cute Natsuki/Kumiko scene eased the confirmation that Reina is into Taki. anyway i definitely liked the episode, didn't think it was boring. just evocative of one of the earlier episodes where the band kids are being little shits, which makes it a bit frustrating to watch.

In this episode we once again demonstrate that while Asuka is personable and fun as hell, she is horribly unsuited to becoming the grand leader and balancing the desires and personalities of the group. Asuka is weak, and she lacks the resilience of Haruka. Natsuki is also a total bro. It wasn't any kind of surprise, but these kinds of characters are always watchable. Also I love the delivery of Reina's voice actor. It's a perfect mix of maturity and childish arrogance. I love the snappy dialogue between her and Kumiko, Kumiko says something, and Reina snaps back an answer half a second later. I looked it up, and Reina's only other lead role was freaking Chaika. Yeah, she has talent.

My annoyance is only slightly tempered because (hopefully) Reina's feelings won't be reciprocated and Kumiko will be there to pick up the pieces. Of course that's not gonna happen this season with only two episodes to go.

 Reina is very powerful. Another thing I've noticed about her dialogue is that it's often a mix of naturalistic delivery, and slightly stilted delivery. The stilted delivery always occurs after she's spend several seconds silent, like she'd been mentally practicing the words to say. You can see it in the episode 8 mountain hike, or this episode with the exchange with ribbon versus the rant to Kumiko. Reina is an extremely pretentious person. On the other hand, Kumiko is purely naturalistic, because she's not pretentious at all and feels like she has nothing to really prove. She sees herself as a supporting character in her own show. God drat I love the characterisation of this show.

From what I've heard there are three more episodes. I am slowly getting over my disappointment at this point. From a objective viewpoint the show is still good, just... Sigh. Oh well, hopefully there are good fanfics.

By the way, even if I'm disappointed they didn't go with the Reina/Kumiko pairing, I do not mind the senseicrush at all. Lots of schoolgirls have crushes on men who are their senior. What I would mind is if they actually ended up in a relationship (please don't do this Kyoani).
