Sean's done a few other podcasts, including one that was basically a sincere Hollywood Handbook. At the end, the host asked a standard set of questions, including "when did you first feel that you've 'made it' in Hollywood?" to which a pained Sean answered "You know I hate this sort of stuff right?"

FINISHED THE STORY
I really liked that episode with Sean. It was fun hearing how passionate he got just trying to explain why the music meant so much to him. I would have never pegged him as a TMG guy. Cool that he's turned his life around and is now such a cool, funny, nice guy. Similarly, I got into TMG and TMBG the same summer. I listened to Flood and Tallahassee back to back, over and over for months.

Spontaneanation was a miss though for me this week, probably the first one. The scene just never really came together, and no one seemed to be picking up on each other's cues. Like, Paul was clearly trying to lead them to the school talent show as the big climax, and then someone cut right to it, like 10 minutes into the longform. I still got plenty of laughs from it, but it didn't grab me like past weeks have.

Pretty fun improv 4 humans with just 2 guests, some cool stuff and everyone was having a good time. My favorite part was Besser's reaction to the porn goggle story: "Condoms don't feel good to me."

Disappointing that they made Lauren Lapkus pretty much play it straight in Jurassic World and gave all the funny lines to Jake Johnson. The movie would have been so much better if they had made the two of them the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the story like it seemed they were going to at the beginning with Jake's Jurassic Park shirt/speech. Still the last scene with them got huge laughs so it wasn't a complete waste I guess.

Every single joke that wasn't between her and Jake totally fell flat in my theater. But all their jokes killed, and the laughter was at its highest when she denied him the kiss. Well, the intended laughter at least.

After the movie two of my friend said they wish the movie was about those two. Maybe Lapkus will be the Chloe O'Brian of the JP series.

Yeah, the bummer is that I actually like some of the music he gets on the show that leans more toward folk than country, but when I'm listening to podcasts on the train or at work I am so not in the mood to listen to slow, depressing folk music, especially songs that average 5 minutes long.

That being said, there were some really solid scenes today. I've been going back through the episodes from the beginning again recently and I'm loving Mary Holland more and more. Gabrus and Cordero are always great, too.

If you like Mary Holland you have to listen to the Before You Were Funny podcast with her (and Dan Harmon + Allan Macleod). If you don't know the podcast the idea is that guests bring in material they wrote from highscool/college/whatever from 'before they were funny' and hearing Mary Holland be absolutely mortified reading her diary entry about loving potatoes is the funniest thing.

I don't suppose there's an AV Club style, community rated podcast episode guide or something is there? I just find it super frustrating that there's so much stuff out there, but because I don't commute I barely get through or or two things a week these days, and it'd make life easier if I knew which stuff was A grade goodness.

I kinda hope there is, or I'm going to have to get knee deep in bad code and make one and hope people use it...

I also need more MEJ improv in general, would love to see him on I4H or something.

The AV Club actually does something that sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

http://www.avclub.com/features/podmass/

In Podmass, The A.V. Club sifts through the ever-expanding world of podcasts and recommends 10–15 of the previous week’s best episodes. Have your own favorite? Let us know in the comments or at podmass@avclub.com.

I don't usually pay much attention to it, so I can't speak to weather I tend to agree with their recommendations or not.

Podmass sucks now because it just scattershot recommends npr style bull poo poo instead of reviewing a million podcasts a week.

I used to read Podmass every week, but now I don't know most of the shows they follow, and looking through the descriptions am not interested in them in the slightest.

A column consistently reviewing the major Earwolf and other comedy podcasts would be great, especially if the reviewers judge the show compared to past episodes. I would want to know which episodes are skippable instead of wasting 20 minutes and deciding the guest doesn't really mesh well with the show.

It is interesting that not many other places cover/review podcasts with great regularity though - I remember old AV Club editor Keith Phipps talking a lot about what a nightmare it was just getting Podmass together every week.

And I possibly prefer the new Podmass format to the old The Best/The Rest format, even though the old one led to a lot of very funny references to it from Tom Scharpling. I think probably because it reflected a shift in how I listen to podcasts from having a decent number that I listened religiously to every episode of to having a core few that I always listen to, while having a whole bunch more that I just listen to compelling/funny-sounding episodes of. Anyone else have a similar move?

Old podmass was pretty nice and the only thing I'm aware of that did TV or film recap style content for pod casts. I assume the reason they stopped and it's not a popular format in general is because nobody wants to listen to 60 hours of podcasts a week.

Seems like once you got familiar with the format you could prolly get away with not listening to the entire episode for a given podcast

Then again, I used to have an internship where I had to review a single song one time a week and that was really hard so I dunno.
