The time was actually not that big of a concern, it was more the fact that it used up far to much steel (very valuable resource in war time) and that the allies got permission to use the Azores for refueling. The increased production capacity for escort carriers played a role as well though.

The Habakkuk is probably one of the more amusingly terrible WWII projects on the books. The whole point of it was to build a relatively cheap carrier that could deal with U-boats in the Atlantic without using any steel, except it A) required more steel for insulation than would actually take to build a regular carrier, B) cost a shitload of money, and C) would have been done like a month before the war in Europe ended. Oh and it could move like 6 knots absolute max and it still would have melted in a few years. So terrible. PBJ posted:Is it crazy that I want to see some sort of Sunset Invasion-esque DLC for HoI4? Like allow the player to invest in nation-specific superweapon projects that are unlocked when the right tech researched. I want an actual Sunset Invasion DLC, like what happens when you import a CK2 save into EU4. Can the might of Karling Europe stand against a second Yaotlalli?

I want a proper alien invasion HOI4 DLC. Not like the alien invasion console command, that crapped out a bunch of generic top-tier units with no leadership, but an actual alien invasion with an event chain surrounding it, that could occur within the bounds of an ongoing grand campaign (like Sunset Invasion happening in the middle of an ongoing CK2 grand campaign, rather than having a standard 'alien invasion start scenario'), unique units for the aliens, and everything. It could unlock whole new national decision trees about whether to make peace with your wartime enemies and try to fight the aliens, or try to side with the aliens in exchange for weird alien technology (but risking them getting much stronger and taking over land and eventually turning on you), or whatever. The aliens could have special alien infiltration espionage that would try to subvert AI countries and cause bad effects within their enemies. Have a new tech tree where humanity tries to use our creativity and ingenuity to come up with ways to exploit alien weaknesses. Have it so eventually you're nuking the aliens and fighting them with ray guns reversed engineered from captured alien tech. You could even have it so the aliens' interstellar enemies drop by to lend a hand to the embattled humans. I would trust Paradox to pull it off and I would play the hell out of it.

Provinces now either have a fort, or they don't; and forts cost maintenance and have a zone of control so you're not supposed to have a garrison in every province.

I think that cast would've been better with Chick and Geryk because I think they would've been a bit more amenable to a game being a ww2 wargame. That being said, if it wants to be a ww2 wargame it's going to need some kind of level of structure to make the allies more restrained. Also, the impact of the minor powers is going to have to be reduced. It's kind of got two pushes- one to be an empire builder, fun for any country you pick, one to be a ww2 game about winning the big one, and I think they have to have some different sacrifices.

cheesetriangles posted:Is there any real trick to industrialization in vicky 2? What should I be doing as the US? Capitalists take a little bit of their savings over from their old POP when they promote, and those savings are vital for starting the industrialisation process if you can't build factories yourself with state capitalism or planned economy. After you have a factory up, though, the profits from that factory are split 50/50 between workers and capitalists, with the capitalists then taking spending for life/daily/luxury needs out of the profits before reinvesting the remainder. Hence: 1. If you have state capitalism/planned economy, ignore capitalists 2. If you have interventionism/laissez faire and existing factories, ignore capitalists 3. If you have interventionism/laissez faire and no factories, promote capitalists until you have factories, then go to 2. NB this works on a state by state basis, as I don't think capitalists are able to build factories in states they don't reside in.
