isn't it actually *more* expensive from a manufacturing standpoint to cast aluminium rather than iron i mean iron is easy as gently caress to work with; history doesn't go "stone age -> bronze age -> aluminium age"

its all for hte gimmick of being lighter weight, that's it. it's for people who are "oh me, oh my, i sure want this piece of cookware but it's so HEAVY! dear me what shall i do!?" and see "cast aluminum? That sounds light! Performs like cast iron? SOLD!" but it doesnt because its aluminum it's not at all cast iron and doesnt belong in a drat dutch oven lol

aluminum is more expensive by weight but cheaper by volume also refining aluminum is the hard part, once you have the stock material it's as easy to cast as iron probably easier
