I've not watched the video, but are they seriously going to give indicators for lines of sight? Because thank god, the difficult-to-parse LoS rules of XCOM were awful.

The footage was pretty heavily scripted but while the squad was sneaking up on advent at the beginning you could see squares highlighted red near them. Nothing like that during the rest of the mission though.

The interesting part was that activation is reversed now. Their behavior isn't ambiguous like it was with pods. They stand somewhere, have a sight range, patrol on a schedule with an actual position. When you spring on them, then everything activates at once. So you aren't dicking around trying to activate packs in chunks.

I'm assuming, anyway. I suppose they might still activate in stages. He made it sound like things are kind of 'reversed'. Except that they don't seem to be. Just clearer.

Massive Chalice had a good feature that I hope XCOM2 incorporates. When you hovered your mouse over a tile to move to an eye showed above an alien if you had line of sight to them from that tile. Please do this XCOM2. I just want to know where I can snipe that stupid muton from.

I really like that activation and LoS aren't tied. That's really important because now you can set up your whole team to overwatch an enemy pod as soon as it scatters, plus the free aimed hit.

I really, really liked that Advent MECs use the same animations as the enemy within ones. It stood out, especially since XCOM got new animations rigged, and really made it feel like something was wrong with the picture.

It's nice, because meld can quick-build and quick-produce various structures and items which could really help you get back in the game.
However, doing those things also increases the cost of every OTHER cost, which makes it kind of pointless for people lagging behind. All it does is bolster the people who are coasting along way ahead.

It's not enough on its own, no, but with a long hard look at the other mechanics that right now reinforce the current game state, it could be part of a comeback-enabling system. Unfortunately, that long hard look will never happen, because the modders behind LW have little interest in making mechanics mesh with the idea that they're trying to sell in that early large landed ufo, that you don't have to win every mission. They have much more interest in ensuring difficulty by nerfing stand-out strategies and improving enemies that are seen as insufficiently troublesome.

(I say this stuff about modder interest without knowing or talking to the modders, but I think their intent is evident in the Long War mod's patch history.)

Really? The way the soldiers run and move looks really weird, and the health bars and icons all look like they took a step back in how clean their design is.

Oh well I'm sure someone will mod to use XCOM 1 icons and tile markers etc

Also with the emphasis on female gendered aliens for all the species that have been revealed(Did they ever give the pectoids one?) I can only conclude that planet earth is alien Jurassic Park and that humans are being fed to extinct alien races for the amusement of living alien races.

Sectoids are genderless. They are all perfect clones of one another and thus have no reproductive organs since they're all grown in tubes somewhere.

I would think that the one technology the aliens would want to give humanity are cars that can't explode. The 3 leading causes of alien death have to be rockets, shotgun blasts and car explosions. And yet 20 years in the future some ADVENT sap takes cover behind a car.

Maybe not, a lot of the stuff happening in that scripted demo was abbreviated, like the enemies attacking on the turn they appeared, the viper grab+killing in one. They probably just skipped the timer.

Capitol: A building or complex of buildings in which any legislature meets.
Capital: A city designated as a legislative seat by the government or some other authority, often the city in which the government is located; otherwise the most important city within a country or a subdivision of it.

They probably felt that exploding cars was too much a part of the XCOM experience to toss away.

And besides, now instead of being able to instantly recognize you got Death Lane, you won't be able to figure it out until 2-3 turns in you got Death Lane 2.0: Procedurally Generated Boogaloo. :suicide:

Seriously, I bet there is at least one map template that's on a wide street or a bridge or overpass.

Just do your best.
Just do your worst.
Some parts of the game definitely look a bit unpolished, but the fact that he said even the skill trees are still being negotiated (I honestly assumed with 5 months left all the core stuff is in and it's just bugfixing/polish time) means that there's plenty of room for changes here and there before release.

Also I hope that screen filter for concealment is modded out immediately, if it survives all the way to November.
