while that is doable for random encounters, pre-placed encounter zones won't react well to that, unless you like seeing people split into two upon rendering

they could totally do what doom did with its difficult levels in 1994 and just have additional enemies placed in by designers that only activate for players past a certain level

Hmm. No, I'm pretty sure I had fun with Oblivion, FO3, FONV and Skyrim even before mods.

The irony is that the most fun I had with a bethesda game was oblivion on the 360. It only crashed once, after I duped a billion bear claw helms in cheydenhall.

Then the game auto-saved so I reloaded in the middle of a skull flooded city with NPCs slowly wading their way through a sea of bear skulls. It took like ten tries to get out of the city and I never went back. I played that poo poo for ages then eventually bought the PC version for mods but it was never as fun as that first playthrough.

so I've been looking and reading and calling all over and I can't figure out what the gently caress is going on with collectors editions in Canada. Bethesda is going "pick yours up at eb games!" And eb is farting out a consistent "wha?". I've heard reports that best buy aren't honouring preorders, I think Amazon.ca briefly had some for the duration of eb's fart.... Does anyone in here actually know what the preorder situation in Ontario is?

Yes I really want to waste my money on a plastic phone case. I'm a horrible idiot, please enable me.

Also on the Bethesda game quality discussion, I think it's real easy to look at the details of their games and tear them apart for the jankey clunky poo poo they are, but when you put it all together you get literally unforgettable games that you spend your whole life reinstalling to play "one more time" once a year.

I can't wait to see how long it will take for someone to put something like this in their mod's script:

code:
Scr GetFuckedCosoles
Event OnPlayerLoadGame()
	If Debug.GetPlatformName() != PC
		RegisterForUpdate(1,0)
	EndIf

If you have a script like this running in the background, it should slowly but steadily gently caress up your save file. Removing the mod from an already affected save won't fix it, it'll just prevent it from getting worse. :rms:

Just in case you missed them, like I did, raiders can and will just run straight past your defenders into other rooms, so one of them might have slipped by while you were watching the front door.

Or maybe it's a weird bug. Haven't seen anything like that since I missed the ones who beelined to my diner and murdered half the vault.

I played through FO3 without mods, and I don't think I ever even added any afterward. Something about new Vegas though, I couldn't explain it but I felt like it needed mods more. Most will take issue with that probably.

Same with skyrim. I HAD to mod it. I just didn't feel like playing it without a bit of customization and tweaking.

I have a feeling my desire to mod is entirely dependant on how much setup the game has. TES is traditionally super light on intros. You're arrested, whoops time to wander away and start your new life! Woops you got shot in the head! Time to go find the guy who did It, or not, no hurry really. Fallout 3 had a ton of buildup before letting you loose.

The whole growing up in the Vault intro was pretty neat the first time but it can get old if you do it enough - fortunately I don't start new games often enough to really care and the game drops a save as soon as you leave the Vault for the first time if you want to restart. Fallout 3 does give you an incredible amount of freedom though. The first time I played the game I left the Vault, explored Springdale and Megaton then ditched the main story to explore around the wasteland. I remember stumbling onto some random garage at the rear end end of the world and found Vault 112 under it, and in it happened to be Dear Old Dad being held hostage in a chair. I had no idea what the gently caress was going on as I had skipped most of the story, finished the mission and ended up just reloading a safe from before I entered so I got the whole picture.

Freedom is great, but skipping half of what little story there is, not so great.

I've also never modded FO3 or NV. It's weird, I normally modify TES games to some extent but never Fallout. I doubt I'll mod FO4 either.

The console "fix" for the leveling problem was actually pretty widely known and super simple. Basically pick main skills that you weren't going to use, but include athletics and acrobatics.

the levelling of athletics and acro would mean you would level at a decent pace while still getting good stat boosts. That game was the epitome of hp sponges though after level 20 or so, i'll give you that.

Though in regards to the ease of beating it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioKyj-EK3P0

FO4 will use a tweaked & upgraded version of Skyrim's Creation Engine. And yes, Bethesda-modding as it works now would be a complete clusterfuck on the consoles.
Maybe Bethesda will add proper loadorder sorting & conflict detection/resolution tools. But I sort of doubt that. Either it's going to be a glorious mess, or mods-on-consoles is going to end up Bethesda releasing selected mods that have been checked for stability & conflicts as free DLC via that Bethesda.net thingamajig.
