They're working on it... there are going to be, uh, Kate Stewart audios... so that's a step in the right direction... I guess...

And Torchwood, as I recall! I imagine it'll take them a little while to really feel out what they can do (and what the BBC will let them do) with the revival, but it's a start.

Well on the plus side, David Tennant has a history with Big Finish and provided his schedule allowed it I don't doubt he'd be more than happy to do some 10th Doctor audios with them should they get the license. Then they could do 10th Doctor/Rory adventures!

Arthur Darvill appears in a few non-Doctor Who audios from Big Finish too, but not as Rory yet. https://www.bigfinish.com/search_results?txtSearch=Arthur+Darvill&x=0&y=0

All joking aside, I'm really glad you stuck with the show after your initial poor reaction to season 1, it's been a lot of fun seeing you get into the show and seeing how you reacted to things as they progressed :)

A hero must cook
Really you should watch through series 4, then go back and watch every classic episode (including the reconstructions!!!!!!!!!), then listen to all the audios. Only then can you touch 5 and beyond.

Basically never watch season 5. You will experience substantially less disappointment in the rest of the series.

I think the first season did a number of things right in reviving the show. It was exactly the right way to re-introduce Doctor Who to a new generation. (Looking at the proposals for what would have happened had the TV-movie actually resulted in a series is like finding out that the mosquito that you thought you heard was actually a bullet that just missed your head.)

But yeah, seriously, nowadays, start with The Eleventh Hour. It does all those correct things and is also about a thousand percent better. (And I say this as someone who doesn't really have a problem with Rose, or with Davies.)

And hell yeah, your reviews have been a joy to read, and I'm glad you've done them.

I still quite like season one (and especially the overarching, possibly* unintended storyline of Rose through seasons one and 2) but yeah, goddamn that season has visibly not aged well, it looks a hell of a lot older than 10 years.

* Almost certainly probably.

You should join us all here, in this thread, once you are caught up, and continue posting reviews (Jeru and Cobi also post reviews during the season as episodes air).

I (rarely) write detailed summaries of why I think certain episodes are awful pieces of trash that offend me on a personal level!

Okay so I've done that like once.

eh, i'll keep doing it but part of the personal appeal of the project is watching it with Oxx, who's already seen every episode as they air before we start, and a lot of the general appeal is in reviewing the episodes removed from context so the people reading the thread can see how i react to an episode away from whatever consensus opinion there is, plus the thread gets the various schadenfreude/superiority feeling when i either watch pure poo poo and hate it or get something totally wrong

i think the no-spoilers policy, which was initially just to keep my reactions fresh and removed from influence, has grown to be a big part of their appeal and part of what makes them interesting in the first place

I mean, sure, but you won't be able to do that anymore once you are caught up, so you can become just a regular guy who posts with his posting friends about watching the TV show program.

Are there any details available in the wider world about how Big Finish's Doctor Who licence works with the BBC financially? Do they pay a lump sum for the rights to use the characters, or does the BBC take a cut of Big Finish profits?
