There are some things that a German word seems to encapsulate so perfectly because of its creative compound structure, like Greek. And I think it has its poetic moments when sung, as well. There's something very beautiful and very specifically German about the setting of Goethe in Mahler's 8th, for example.

icelandic is the largest of the surviving west-norse languages after old norwegian died out during the danish rule. now it's icelandic and faroese and, i'm told, an obscure language spoken by like five old people on one of the scottish isles holding down the fort it's one of the closest surviving approximations of how the vikings spoke, and use an updated & latinised norse alphabet
