BMW have had faux-manual shift levers for decades. Also the FR-S auto is a DSG.

I initially thought forward upshift would be fine but the more I think about it, the more I feel like it should be the other way around, if only not to have to shift against the acceleration.

Most sequential dog boxes you pull back to shift, because you have to do it pretty firmly to prevent damage to the dogs. When you're ready to shift you just pull back and momentarily lift the throttle (or let the rev limiter take care of it, or have a switch wired into the lever to do it automatically). But for an automatic it probably seems natural for the average person to push forward for up.

Semi-side note, it makes me laugh when people complain about a "lack of power" in modern cars. Even low power ones have more than enough with very few exceptions, and have power curves we could only dream of 20 years ago. Aw, the FR-S only has 200 BHP? ¡Pobrecito! Drive an 84 Buick Skyhawk wagon with 86 BHP (which is soaked up thru an awful 3 speed auto and is propelling more than 3000 lbs).

I've never owned a car with more than 100 hp. I like sports cars and all but when it comes time to buy I just can't talk myself into buying a guzzler. 100 hp is plenty to pull away at stop lights and get to highway speeds before the onramp ends. Heck, I did fine with it at 50hp when I daily drove a bug. It really only suffered climbing mountains on I-5 through Oregon.

In Texas, any plate that starts or ends in "DV" with a space between DV and everything else is a disabled veteran plate, and counts as a handicapped plate. Otherwise they get the universal disability symbol as part of the plate. My mother has a permanent disability, but refuses to get the plates - she'd rather get a new tag every few mirrors that you hang from the mirror. She says she doesn't want to be seen as an old woman by having a handicapped plate, but she's already driving an Avalon..

I have a terrible idea. I have a mostly reliable '76 MGB that has some rust and a poo poo flat paint job from a previous owner. I have had it parked for the past year due to the clutch leaking all of its fluid all over the drivers side floor pan, so anyway, I am thinking i should just say gently caress it and paint the whole thing olive drab and paint it up to look like an old willys jeep. Am I doing a bad thing? I think it would look really neat, but i have heard some dissent from other...purists. So what do you say AI?

Whatever, paint is just that, paint. You can strip it back off down to bare metal whenever you want with the appropriate solvents. And it's got poo poo bodywork/paintwork already so it's not like you're pissing on the mona lisa. Don't do anything horrible mechanically or bodywork wise, have fun with it, if you decide you hate it strip it off and give it a proper paintjob.

You could probably find an olive drab plasti dip, then peel it off if you get tired of it. Less commitment, and an easy dodge to the haters if need be.

Sounds like a good idea but the paint is already shot, it was a flat paint and someone at some point waxed it so it is now a weird pink red. it was apparently orange at first so we are already on coat two.
