Skippy (April 30, 1928) Peanuts (June 30, 1969, and yeah, we suddenly jumped a year ahead, but at least there's a good reason this time.) Funky Winkerbean What a charming first impression to make on somebody who I'm assuming is directly over her. Also, ECHO! CHAMBERS! Still Popeye, because dammit, this story is going to end before I drop Sagendorf. Rip Haywire Out Our Way (June 6-7, 1927) Thimble Theater (January 15, 1929) If you've got some extra time this morning, Comics Kingdom posted a selection of Thimble Theater from the way way back. It took the better part of a decade to bang the strip into something that could produce America's favorite mutant sailor. EasyEW fucked around with this message at 14:24 on Jun 29, 2015 |

Prince Valiant is about to go off and fight a sorceror, and Modesty is teamed up with Tomax and Xamot. A good crop of classic comics!

Things like this and the extremely truncated dialog make Mandrake extremely surreal. It feels like it's written by aliens with some idea of what humanity is like, but that are extremely vague on the details, or is written by someone who is very, very high. It has only a very lose connection with reality or how people actually act, and I'm not talking about the magic.

They stopped playing that loop, because it was only there as part of the plot to draw out the terrorist, who was in prison and who Mandrake identified using a power we've never seen him use before and has nothing to do with hypnosis, because he was the only person in the prison who got angry at the same announcement being played over and over on a booming loudspeaker. In short, Now for some Friendly Dog Comix (the use of the term 'friendly' may be sarcastic in the case of Pooch Café) Carmen sleeps naked, that's something for the wiki. Ballard Street Sparky is the best dog.

I think I wouldn't even be surprised if for all his simple Christian country folk American values shtick, Gilchrist was pro-gay marriage. His universal peace and love message may be clumsily executed but the basic thought behind it seems genuine. Although it seems more likely that he doesn't care, is just doing his usual innocent child's play thing and in fact hasn't even taken the truck to town to buy a newspaper lately.
