It was a failed attempt for FYAD cred/acceptance to my knowledge. Silversliver was a pretty lovely mod because she'd rock up to random megathreads and go "heh heh give me one good reason to not gas this thing" while the regulars are like what the gently caress.

A lot of goons are really awkward to the point of being afraid to post in an established thread where regulars exist and topics can get buried in a megathread while a new and more focused thread can sometimes bring in new people to the subforum or whatever.

It's like the Hellthread but even less consequential. Didn't some goon donate money to Doobie instead of buying his children Christmas presents?

the kid was like 20 so sadly the whole 'christmas is cancelled kids, who wants slaw dawgs??' scene never happened. But on the plus side iirc he donated a ridiculous amount even by goon standards so its still funny.

Speaking of, does anyone have that exchange with the creator of Slylock Fox showing up in BSS, goons calling him out, and then he responded by dropping a hint in the next week's comic?

Acne Rain posted:May I ask why people were dumping loads of money on some random midwesterner's hot dog stand It seemed nice to do? It seems like it was more successful than most Kickstarters? I didn't give the hot dog man money and it was weird to do so but not anywhere near as weird as the people still following the activity of the most unremarkable redneck and his hot dogs

Plus, after a few dozen pages new people will come in not having read the OP or the rules and post poo poo that generates mod reports, even if its pretty benign or harmless, making a lot of unnecessary work for the mods (but that's nothing compared to TVIV, where people just keep reporting each others posts out of spite hundreds of times). Taciturn Tactician posted:It was supposed to be a like a cute "goons make a community better!" thing combined with him painting Everyone kind of missed the underlying problem that Doobie was denied a bank loan for his business and that should've given people some idea as to the strength of his business plan. Also, he was from deep country Alabama, and almost certainly a racist.
