I like sports cars and all but when it comes time to buy I just can't talk myself into buying a guzzler.

100 hp is plenty to pull away at stop lights and get to highway speeds before the onramp ends. Heck, I did fine with it at 50hp when I daily drove a bug. It really only suffered climbing mountains on I-5 through Oregon.

My first car was a 68 bug with a 1600dp, it might have had 55hp on a good day. These days, cars are coming with close to 300hp and still getting 30+ mpg on the highway. It's only the silly V8s that drink gas like I drink rum.

Yep, I've had 1 terrible car in my 22 years of driving. An auto, poop brown 85 Accord that poo poo out the A/C 3 days after my parents foisted it upon me. Everything else has been a VW :) and only 1 of those was mediocre, the 95 2.slow stripper Jetta my dad handed down to me when I finally talked him into buying a new car. It even had window cranks.

Long-term experimentation with a variety of knackered cars has shown me that the lower limit for me to keep up with other traffic is about 25bhp/ton.

The only vehicle I've ever spent a lot of time in that I felt was genuinely too slow to keep up with traffic was a late 90s Ford Transit with the non-turbo 2.5. Not sure how much power it had but I think it was around 75hp when brand new so loaded it wouldn't have been far off your number.

I didn't know what it was either, except for the mentioned word "fuelie", which was enough to get an idea of why they might be special with a quick Google search. (I still don't fully understand why, but based on the reaction here I imagine they are something fairly special)

It's a small block V8 with mechanical fuel injection they're pretty rare and very valuable. Since that's a 61-62 Vette I'm not sure if it'd be the 283 or 327.

edit: If it's a 62 it has the 327, otherwise the 283.

This makes me extra happy. Keep your drat wheels inside your fenders and stop throwing rocks at me god damnit. There's an idiot on my street that has a new Passat with at the bare minimum 20" rimzzzz and way too much poke. They sit like 2 inches past the fender, car looks like poo poo.

My own personal terrible car stuff.

When i lived in the states in the early 2000's i bought my first car, a 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante LS. It's not a terrible looking car and had a bucket load of extras for it's age:

I spent far too much money and time trying to make it something it wasn't, including 3 weeks hand sanding the intake plenum and painting some engine bay trim:

But worst was removing the resonators, adding a Y pipe and getting some flat tips for a side exit exhaust:

Not the most garish thing in the world, but what the hell was young me thinking in trying to pimp out a sedan?!

It's not that bad? Looks like the under the hood stuff was mostly "I take care of my car, I should make it look good," stuff, and the side pipes were probably the worst thing. I think the factory spoiler and chrome trim are worse than your edits though.

Agree that the car isn't too bad - you didn't go over the top with goofy decals, trim, or add-on pieces and everything else is more for cleanliness sake. Even the side pipes aren't that bad, at least they aren't sticking out like crazy

Well, the exhaust does suck.
But nothing wrong with that vintage mits sedan. I quite like the evo 3 sedan (last of the light weight platform), and the mits magnas (similar car to yours), weren't too bad. I'd always prefer the ford falcon, but the mits magna did have some quick sports models, including a 4wd one.
Nothing wrong with sedans, all the good mits sold here were sedans, even going back to the old galant rally cars that were around before the lancer/evo.
