I don't hate Wheaton, but most of what I have ever gone to him for was neat tabletop games to play with friends, and that series has plenty of other personalities to make it interesting. The Cards Against Humanity episode of Table Top (featuring Aisha Tyler amongst others) is pretty good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCEqUn7If44

Also I thought it was neat early on in Table Tops life when retailers would actually have little Geek & Sundry stickers on games like Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride

Aisha Tyler continues to look like a person that would be really cool to hang out with (#girlwood)

They don't do "LPs" very often tho. Tabletop is more about being funny with a bunch of personalities than about the games, to the point they were getting tons of rules wrong and Wheaton threw the producer under a bus with spiked wheels this season.

They still have some cool episodes, like Fiasco and The Resistance, tho. It's a fun show. Wil can be a bit...overpowering at times, however.

The best LP of any tabletop game SU&SD did was the XCom style game that was in a warehouse and they were cluelessly leading a nation and caused diplomatic incidents because they got out metagamed by the other players.

As for Wil's personality, which is part of the big appeal for the show, it's not that entertaining after like 10 episodes of him screaming.

Edit - This is the SU&SD video - http://www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos/v/susd-play-megagame/

Dead weight, just like this post.

The bigger problem with Wil Wheaton is that his other show, Tabletop, makes so many mistakes when showing off these board games (especially recently) that a few of their videos have a annotation come up saying "we completely messed up the rules don't play the game like this"

Plus there's the moment that will live in infamy as Felicia Day actively sabotages the (co-op) game by pretending to be a zombie nurse or something and keeps searching an empty room in i think it was Last Day on Earth?

Yeah, Last Night on Earth from the first season. She was....special...in that one.

It's a fun show about cool games you may not have heard of, but it's not always the most accurate representation of the rules. Though, I haven't noticed any glaring annotation-prompting errors lately....

Wil Wheaton wrote some post blaming a lot of this past season's problems with the guests not following the rules on a specific producer so apparently there was some problems as of late.

Didn't even know the show existed, though now that I look, I do recognize the name of the producer in question and I suspect he was far too busy doing damage control over his own foray into Kickstarter to engage in any actual production during that season. If I were to give the show a spin, which episodes would I absolutely positively want to avoid?

None of them are bad from like a technical standpoint and certainly not bad if all your wanting is to see how the game looks before you buy it or whatever. The worst offender in terms of mistakes being their Fortune and Glory video although to be fair as much as i like that game it does have a lot of fiddly little rules and variants depending on how your play it. I guess if you're really adverse to certain famous people (Felicia Day in particular can be a sticking point for some people) that can be a problem.

Yeah, I mean this past season was wholly Kickstarted because apparently it costs a lot to film on a porn set (they really do actually).

I've said here before that I watch Co-Optitude on their channel too every now and then, and it's sort of a guilty pleasure because it's mostly Felicia freaking out and being terrible at games, yet somehow it entertains me. It's mostly me being drunk and trolling YT for things to watch, then when I find out there's no new Tabletop I just click on those. Apparently the Days are on break and I think the guys filling for them are actually...better at that schtick? Anyway, it's weird and Tabletop-talk reminded me of it.

Also, if nothing else Tabletop made me really wanna play Fiasco. Such a cool concept.

So, Jim Sterling does what he calls "Squirty" plays of really bad games (sorta like what Lowtax does on his channel) and got into it with some indie dev studio called Digital Homicide. There was a DMCA issue around fall of last year, and the dev got really mad about other videos Sterling did on the games from their library.

Today they had an "interview", it's pretty comical for it's own reasons.

http://www.thejimquisition.com/2015/07/special-podcast-jim-sterling-and-digital-homicide-hash-it-out/

Teaser:

Digital Homicide - "Would you say that if developers stopped making games you would be out of a job?"
Jim Sterling - "Uh....yes? You can't review things that don't exist."
Digital Homicide - "That is the definition of a leech."
Jim Sterling - "No..no it's not."
Digital Homicide - "Yes it is. Look it up on Google. I already looked it up."
Jim Sterling - "Leeches are segmented worms that belong to the phylum Annelida..."
*later*
Jim Sterling - "We're learning a lot about leeches here..."

Edit - It's literally 2 hours of Jim arguing with someone who has the argumentative skills of a child. It's amazing :allears:

It's about 2 hours of the dev shouting/talking over Jim Sterling while changing the subject each time he realizes he hasn't come across some valid point that would defeat Jim Sterling.

A lot of his complaints are "you shouldn't be harsh towards my games in your criticism, it's still early in our dev career", "you use assets to create your product (videos) and that's exactly the same as our games using unity assets", and "don't present your opinion if it's not based on facts."

He is very clueless as to how the real world works.

Did you get to the part where the Digital Homicide guy starts to lose his cool and just tries his best to mock Jim as passive aggressively as possible? Or the gun sound discussion?

Edit - My favorite part is his association with the Bro Team/AngryJoe thing in which AngryJoe used an image (from like 4chan or Reddit) that depicted the "sides" of GamerGate and Bro Team's logo was featured on one of the sides. Apparently Bro Team took offense to that, arguably justified because gently caress getting caught up in that, and tried to get Joe to amend the image with an annotation or something saying it's not a factual representation of who is involved etc but that didn't take as fast as he wanted and then issued a DMCA, then later they hashed it out after Joe flipped out on Twitter for a few hours complaining about it.

That somehow is the same as saying negative things about a game in a hands on impression.
