Geralt and Lambert both refuse to buckle their armor over their stomachs too, at least on some of Geralt's gear.

I thought that some of the sword techniques used against monsters requires a great deal of mobility in the midsection to perform? I remember reading a blurb about witcher sword techniques being very unusual and adapted over many different witchers to confuse monsters and provide a bit more time to land attacks. It'd be an interesting detail if your fast attack changed based upon your armor class but that could be really painstaking to develop I would think.

So while I wait for a price drop on 3, I was going to play through 1 and 2.

1 was soooo so so boring in both combat, and fiddly "find herbs / bear asses" way, that I didn't get out of that castle. Is there save importing from 1 to 2? If so, are there any save editors?

If not, is the recap in the OP good 'nuff to get on with 2?

ANother question, I've read about the "combat rebalanced" mod do goons recommend it? It sounds kind of fun, but I'll probably set it to baby mode since I generally don't play these games for the combat (it definitely seems crappy in Witcher 1.)

Here's a list of Witcher 1 end-of-game save states you can import into Witcher 2.

Your... your second question isn't a question. :ohdear: If you meant to ask "should I install the Combat Rebalance Mod," I don't think it's going to give you the kind of experience you're looking for. It's more minor tweaks than sweeping overhauls.

I'm having an issue with the Muire D'yaeblen Contract. Prior to the quest I had already found and made the Drowner Pheromone potion. I'm now at the point in the quest, where it asks me to find and make the potion. If I equip and apply the potion to myself nothing in the quest objectives update and the Water Hag won't spawn. Even when I destroyed the potion, remade it, and then used it, nothing changed. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to fix it?

Yes definitely. Story quests give shitloads of XP and I think once you are >5 or 6 levels you will only get 5XP max

Is there any consequence to getting "Quest Failed" messages, other than the obvious?

I'm about halfway through Act 1 Novigrad, and I'm "tracking down" Djikstra's treasure. I got a bit bored with that and decided to do the Whoreson Junior questline, so I tracked him down and killed him. But after I killed him, I got a Quest Failed message for I think Gangs of Novigrad - probably the one where I was supposed to meet Cleaver. Am I locked out of a bunch of stuff now?

On that particular one, Cleaver just provides an alternate way to find Whoreson Junior. You're good.

There's a more violent option for the arena and casino quests? I picked the wrong dialogue options with the arena master and ended up fighting in the arena, fighting my way out of the whole area, and then had to fight through the casino (and then fight into Whoreson's compound in Oxenfurt too since the guards recognised me)

Minor Act 1 Novigrad stuff: If you go along with Gangs of Novigrad you just kick the door down and storm the casino and/or arena with a small gang of dwarves. I think for the guards to not recognize you at the mansion you have to play nice at the casino and/or not kill the doormen at the arena.

Every quest that has its level requirement shown as grey instad of green or red will give you only 5xp. Sometimes it will be multiple times 5xp like during the Fyke Isle quest but still.

I had a very similar problem to the post you quoted and I fixed it by being in the quest objective circle when I used the potion I think, so if you do get to check it out, that might be related to it.

Yes, this is true, when you drink the potion you need to be inside the hag's lair, inside the circle shown on the minimap.

They can always sell the engine use rights and generic assets to some other studio. I don't see why they cannot use their expertise to revamp combat for purely human vs human, no magic, more types of weapons used. Now all you need is a license, story and voice acting. Maybe we'll see something made in redkit, I know there were new adventures made for W2.

Eh, if you poke around there much you can find bits without collision and chunks of brick floating at odd angles. It feels unfinished, maybe some later DLC will expand on it. I was really expecting the cat scavenger hunt to lead me up through the basement of the temple. Honestly there's enough unused or unfinished hooks in Novigrad that CDPR could probably get away with an expansion that just went straight down for a bit. Maybe link up with the elven ruins under Oxenfurt via a wraith-clogged cavern/ dead elven city. I know it's kind of against type for the game, but I liked the more or less straightforward dungeon crawly bits. They were a nice palate cleanse before jumping back into the story.

As for what's next for the franchise (after expansions) I'm torn: on one hand I wouldn't mind a couple of smaller games set in the same/similar world, maybe different time with decent branching stories and ~50 h playtime. On the other hand it might be seen as AssCreed style franchise exploitation.

I think Mass Effect has sold a bit more than 10 million units. The Witcher 1+2 sold 6 million units (more now, the number is from 18 months ago) and 4 million units from The Witcher 3 in just two weeks.

In other words, both series are tied right now, with the difference that the Witcher 3 still has a pair of million more units to make during the next two years as it's a new release, while Mass Effect has already reached its plateau.

I found a tunnel under temple isle that led to a trapdoor with the eternal flame logo on it.
I got there through a hole in the bridge which leads to the island while I was trying to get the cat school gear.

Still no idea what it was for and I'm pretty sure I've done every quest in the game!

SET PHASERS TO "GRINDING TEDIUM"
I found some schematics for the Griffin steel sword just dorking around in Velen, so I followed the quest markers and got the armour too (which is dope, because I was previously wearing some gambeson thing that make me look like a hobo clown) and went to get the silver sword and oh poo poo there's a huge loving wyvern there and I'm only level 6.

Well, OK. I die a few times, but I eventually manage to avoid him altogether and find the underwater cave. I make my way up the tower, and decide I can wait until the wyvern flies away from the tower a bit and just loot the corpse that very obviously has the sword pattern before he aggros.

Amazingly, this works, and I promptly gently caress off out of there. I feel so drat clever, until I realise that the quest hasn't updated and I can't get a blacksmith to craft the silver sword. I could have sworn I looted everything (I hit triangle: take all), and I have the note that was on the corpse and everything. What are the odds that if I just return later and do it like I was supposed to that everything will be sweet and I'll get the sword, or did I break the quest?

The quest is actually for the equipment upgrade schematics, which you probably haven't found yet. Also, are you bringing the schematics to the dwarf in Crow's Peak? He's an armorer, so he can't craft weapons.

I think you missed the schematic, as I recall it's not on the corpse of the wyvern at all, there are a bunch of chests in the tower. Standing across from the tower where you fight the wyvern, cross the bridge and there's a ladder immediately to your right. Climb it and the schematics are in a chest there. If your quest log didn't update you didn't actually find the schematics.
