I like to think that they cast Mako as the wizard solely so they could have somebody with an accent thick enough to make Arnie look better by comparison.

The Warriors must have popped back on recently because the cover stood out in my list. Still a strange movie. I wish gangs in real life wore absurd matching costumes (Baseball Furies :allears:). I had seen the Director's Cut with the overt comic book stuff when I watched it the first time but I'm not sure which version I liked better. It's still a better comic book movie than most actual comic book movies, though. I love how the little snippets at the beginning when the chief is filling them in on the meeting tell you all you need to know about the characters.

Also I finished Bloodline recently (Netflix original series). I thought it was... OK. It felt too padded with melodramatic soapy stuff; 8 episodes would have been better than 13. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but it felt like they didn't set out to make the best show they could, they tried to optimize for one where you really wanted to watch the next episode. The way they stretched out reveals over multiple episodes got a bit annoying. Kevin's character was also pretty annoying and pointless. I did feel bad when Danny was finally murdered though. :( The hooks they put in for the second season seemed like obvious gimmicks and I'll probably skip that one.

I thought the comic book stuff was awful honestly when I saw it on TV. Dunno if the Netflix one has it though.

This is incredibly good news. The Warriors is a great, atmospheric film, and the comic book stuff takes a dump on the mood of the film.

Eh, it's already uses so many comic book-ish shots that I don't really see the problem. Like how they awkwardly stand perfectly still when talking to each other, or the shots of the underlings reporting to the sunglasses dude where it's just their heads at a right angle, or showing just the mouth of the DJ... I saw the "Ultimate Director's Cut" (that's seriously the name) several years ago so my memory of the changes isn't that fresh but I don't remember it being a big deal.

Also been binging on Orange is the New Black, after seeing the main actress on Daily Show a couple days ago. I was surprised by how interesting it is to watch. Probably helps that I'm a sap when it comes to movies so I will tear up every time I hear a french kid cry, "Balon! Balon!"

The finale of season 2 was, well, kind of epic. One of the must-fulfilling ones I've watched for any show (probably helps that I went to Catholic school, too!)

Honestly, I like literally every side character in OitNB. It's solely Piper (and her outside connections) that drags the show down. The show will improve massively if it keeps going past Piper finishing her sentence and switches focus to, like, Daya or Sophia.

I was in the mood for a comedy so I watched the stand-up show, Dave Foley: Relatively Well. I've liked Dave from everything I've ever seen him in... i don't like him any more because this show sucked so bad. He spends the first 20 minutes talking about how he is not gay, and the various sex he has had with women (they are in Canada, you wouldn't know them). Trust me, you do not want to hear Dave Foley talking about his pubes or how he eats pussy.

I turned it off about half way through when he started talking about how amazingly smart he is and how much Americans hate smart people.

Turns out Dave Foley is a douche. That's disappointing.

Yeah Piper and her romance/ex is often the weakest link in the show, especially since she's connected to some need to have Jason Biggs do the only character role he can pull off. The entire romantic thing between her and Alex started to annoy me when they forced it back into season 3 AND added a bunch of stupid drama/kink.

Maybe I just don't get how Piper is supposed to be more culpable than the person who threw her under a bus so many times in a row, and such a terrible manipulative person because she's occasionally lied to try and protect peoples' feelings and stuff. I really like her immediate family, just not Jason Biggs and his extended jewish gag life and family. Is it :canofworms: that there are no jewish women in the prison?

I'd really like to see Crazy Eyes' character developed a lot more, and I was actually pretty bummed when she didn't end up making Piper her wife for longer and maybe being shown as an interesting person when supported emotionally by someone who wasn't out to take advantage. In fact about the only thing I knew about the show was that I'd seen Crazy Eyes' actress on a show a couple years back and thought that whole relationship was going to be a bigger deal for longer, and Crazy Eyes basically impersonating a wookie half the time is fun, but doesn't allow for much development when the rest of her screen time is spent building up to excuses for going full wookie.

I hated the Daya thing on and off or a while but adding Cesar as a slightly more humanized character added a lot more depth, as well as Grandma pornstache.

This is exactly how I feel. Even the characters I don't actually like are at least interesting. But the last thing I want to watch from a Jenji Kohan joint is another upper class white person coming in to lower class situations and doing things "better", or whatever the gently caress she's having Piper do in season 4.

Basically all the problems I had with Weeds are cropping up in OitNB, though not as badly as that awful show.

The dude being an rear end in a top hat has been pretty well known for like 20 years, it's why KitH broke up. He just keeps getting jobs because he got divorced while he was on Newsradio so he has to make network television star-sized alimony payments and can't afford to be picky.

The episode of Maron that he's on displays his full doucheyness, but in a much funnier way than that special. It's on Netflix, it's an episode in season 1.

Guy Pearce vomiting and a freeze-frame with the title is cinematic perfection. The rest of the movie is pretty good too, if you like dark comedy.
