I find it interesting to contrast how the manga and the show have differed in displaying the opening scenes. Makes it seem like maybe there's a common 'script' of footnotes on stuff that happens, but the exact details haven't been agreed upon, and the respective staffs are working separately. Specifically: - Goku's shadow boxing is shown purely externally in the show, focusing more on setting up the eventual joke of how terrible he and his son are as farmers, than showing Goku imagining the prior villains. - Beerus destroying the alien planet changes a fair few things. The aliens are various degrees of pig humanoid rather than Toriyama-esque bugs, Beerus only destroys half the planet rather than the whole thing (somehow managing a clean split as he does so), and it seems to be because he genuinely disliked the food, rather than because the aliens tried to poison him, proving themselves to be vile. Plus, no mention of the super saiyan god dream. - The scene with Satan dropping off the money is also reworked. Placed at the end of the story rather than immediately after Goku and Goten's mishaps, Satan arrives in an earthbound car than a flying one, and his assistant seems to have a specific design rather than a faceless goon. Apparently, V-Jump, which is the magazine publishing the manga, is actually a monthly release? So aside of being why chapter 2 isn't out yet, that does raise an interesting question of how pacing is gonna work out between the two.

I feel like if Toriyama wasn't involved in this it would have started off with a big bad and something really dire happening in the first episode (I mean something kind of did, sorta) and would have been non-stop dudes fighting from the get go. I'm glad that they're taking their time building up to it and having fun with the characters. That whole segment with Goten and Trunks getting lakewater for Videl while thinking it was some kind of cosmetics was just a cute silly thing that shows the characters off in a very innocent Toriyama way.

Judging by the amount of punishment that snake took from Goten and Trunks, that snake was stronger than Frieza, possibly stronger than Cell.

Episode rocked, and I hope they keep rocking. Cute family times is all I want, with some fun comedy. Some more action would be nice too, don't get me wrong, but this is great! Next episode will be even better too. There's like no doubt in my mind that Vegeta's family time will be the best thing in history.

Looks like gohan's gonna get a bit of screentime in Super, he was featured pretty heavily in the intro and they made a big point of mentioning HIS RESEARCH in the episode.

Super rules. Trunks and Goten were awesome and the bit of interaction between Videl and her tiny brother in law was great. I love that the book Gohan really wanted was literally titled "difficult book."

Has Trunks always been head and shoulders over Goten? Also, in the intro, Goten has a different gi on than we normally see- he usually has that half-sleeve shirt with the normal orange gi, in this he's even more like mini-Goku with wristbands and the sleeveless shirt. Edit: They also made Krillin significantly shorter in the end credits sequence. He's Trunks' height.. I know he's short, but goddamn, in the Cell saga he was taller than that. That was a neat episode. It felt very slice of life and I enjoyed every second of it. I really like how Goten/Trunks were doing their best to get a gift for Videl. Oh Goku, only you would let a little kid drive a tractor so you can "train". I'm ok with Beerus blowing up planets because the food was awful. After all he wanted to blow up Earth because Buu didn't want to share the pudding.  Next episode looks great. Piccolo is just being grumpy Green Dad.

Roshi quite possibly sprinting all the way from Kame House to ask Goku to buy porn made the episode for me It was a really good start! the animation was extremely fluid and very vivid. Hopefully it turns out to be great all the way through
