Nova Open is Labor Day weekend. Me, WhiteOutMouse, Sex Cannon, and Boon are definitely going.

If we get 8 people we could have the First Annual SRM Cup, as they run small 8 person, 1500pt Highlander tournaments all weekend.

And I would be invested heavily in it. However, from my perspective (as a 40k player) I am actually interested in the new game. I'd be pissed if I was playing Slaanesh and my chosen god got squatted, but if that change comes to 40k you'll probably be able to use them just fine. The last few followers of Slaanesh hiding out in the Chaos legions would be a cool potential story.

The chief problem is that when it comes to the models, they present a confusing message - thanks to Daemonettes, people think of him as the God of Sexytimes, rather than the God of Excess. His Greater Daemon is called Keeper of Secrets - that sounds more Tzeentch than Slaanesh. The other Slaanesh daemons are kinda bleh (in general, a large chunk of Chaos daemons need fundamental re-imagining both lore wise and remodelling). And you can't get Noise Marines units, you have to buy upgrade packs.

He couldn't get squatted in 40k though - he's way too heavily tied into the lore of the Eldar and Dark Eldar, and the warp storms leading up to his birth isolated Terra and were responsible for the Age of Strife prior to the Great Crusade.

Why would they do that when the whole point of squatting Slaanesh is (apparently) to appeal to little kids and their parents, by getting rid of the hermaphroditic sex perversion god?

Regarding Emperor's Children, they'd probably just retcon them to be ultra narcissists who became disillusioned with the Emperor and turned to the worship of "true perfection" as embodied by Chaos. Noise Marines would probably just be turned into some weird offshoot mutation (as a result of the move to Chaos).

I also guarantee that in this single post, I have probably already put more thought into this particular piece of 40k fluff than GW has when the time comes to squat Slaanesh there as well. :v:

:what: After what we just saw GW do to their Fantasy-based IP--an IP they had been steadily crafting and building since the 1980s--do you really think they are going to have a second's pause regarding getting rid of Slaanesh in WH40k (or any other bit of 40k lore when the time comes for that game to get Sigmar'd) just because it's "tied into the lore of the Eldar"?

As far as I see it, it's just 2 different frontparts and 2 different top parts. Granted you have to slice off the engine on the baneblade toppart.

Normally I'd agree with you but GW's particular goose has been laying progressively smaller eggs in recent years. I really don't put anything past GW at this point, especially not if they get panicky after another round of bad financial reports. I don't think 40k's in any immediate danger, but I certainly don't think it's immune from eventually being hosed around with, either.

I think they are meant to be analogous to real life grenade launchers for obscuring the vehicle. You want to get some distance on the lob so the enemy doesn't just shoot into the smoke!

Concerned? Sigmar is not fantasy. It would be like them putting 40k figures on square bases and having you rank them up. If you were a fantasy fan that would be fine because it just made 40k a gateway to fantasy. As it is, Sigmar is a gateway to 40k.

I will expect that you will like it as a casual gateway game to 40k because you have no skin in the game. It is fun! All it took was poor communication, a whole new scale for the minis, and nuking the old setting. You mentioned be careful what you wish for, but at the same time GW screwed the pooch by not building momentum in the end times. The elf story would have been great if it was built on over time. But no, toss it and release unbalanced warscrolls for all the old armies we are probably going to drop anyways.

The fact that GW changed all their 40k iconography on their HQ from 40k to Sigmar, including the old Marine statue, does not bode well for 40k IMO.

Hey Ma, who's that band I like? Oh yeah, Hall & Oates.
We have a 2k Tournament this saturday, no ban list, no force org restrictions (but no unbound)... Here's what I'm considering:

some list posted:

++ Grey Knights: Codex (2014) (Nemesis Strike Force) (1420pts) ++

+ HQ (300pts) +

Librarian (165pts) [Domina Liber Daemonica (25pts), Nemesis Daemon hammer (5pts), Psyker [ML 3] (25pts), Warlord]

Librarian (135pts) [Psyker [ML 3] (25pts), Two Nemesis falchions]

+ Troops (175pts) +

Terminator Squad (175pts) [4x Terminator (sword) (132pts)]
····Terminator Justicar (43pts) [Nemesis Daemon hammer (10pts)]

+ Heavy Support (225pts) +

Nemesis Dreadknight (225pts) [Heavy Incinerator (20pts), Heavy Psycannon (35pts), Nemesis greatsword and power fist (10pts), Personal teleporter (30pts)]

+ Lords of War (720pts) +

Warhound Scout Titan (720pts) [2x Double-barrelled Turbo-laser Destructor]

++ Imperial Knights: Codex (2015) (Oathsworn Detachment) (430pts) ++

+ Lord of War (430pts) +

Knight Crusader (430pts) [ Rapid-fire Battle Cannon w/ Heavy Stubber (5pts), Heavy Stubber, ]

++ Officio Assassinorum: Dataslate (2014) (Officio Assassinorum Detachment) (150pts) ++

+ Elites (150pts) +

Vindicare Assassin (150pts)

I'm aware this is not a very friendly list. I could drop the Vindicare and Dreadknight for a Knight Paladin... I guess...

The format is Eternal War / Maelstrom from the book, so I'll use my GK cards if we roll one of those missions. The plan is to park the Titan, Vindicare and Knight on my backfield objectives and just blow up anything that lands on any other objective, and if I get Gate on one of my Librarians, jumping them around to grab objectives (same with the Dreadknight). But with 4 Strength D Pie Plates dropping every turn, I don't imagine there's much I can't deal with. Unless I get a really unlucky turn one and my opponent manages to drop a lot of D on the Warhound, I think I should do well.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone is saying. They're putting a big push on Sigmar, but I don't think you can extrapolate it to 40k. Sigmar is the new product, so they want to push it hard. By the end of the year, I would imagine things would be back to the status quo.

They started unbound, formations, and no maximum model count in those formation requirements on the 40k side. It is definitely the direction they're going.

Purely for fluff and nerd reasons, is the 7th edition boxed set worth picking up if I can get it at a heavy discount?

It would basically just be for the two fluff/hobby books, very unlikely I'll have the opportunity to play.

I still enjoy the video games and books, and artbooks are my poo poo, but I don't know what the quality of the art/writing is here since I haven't touched 40k proper in years and years.

Almost all of the fluff is copy-pasted from the 6E book but there's some good new artwork. The "pictures" book is photos of models.
