Anthony Burch has people come onto his Twitter to talk poo poo about his relationship with his (ex?)wife sometimes, and is still tight enough with Gearbox that he's credited as a writer on the third episode of Tales from the Borderlands.

Compare that to anybody else on the GamerGate hit parade.

See this is actually a fairly reasonable concern. Again though, we've been given no evidence that any employers are actually checking prospective employees against this list in their hiring process.

Who is legislating against manspreading? People complained about it and, at least here in NYC, they put up some signs on the subway telling people not to take up more space than necessary on a crowded train. By the way these signs appear alongside about a dozen other signs telling people not to eat or clip their toenails on the train, not to block the doors, etc.

It could very well be made public at some point to Doxx people. If your name is on that list, and you didn't want to kiss the feet of some trumped up gatekeeper out of principle or laziness or what have you, you very well could suffer consequences for it. As again, it's a list of people they suspect of being harassers and Gamergate affiliates. That sort of accusation would be damaging to any respectable person's reputation.

There is no proof that this is currently happening, but we're not exactly privy to various HR units internal processes. I would rather not be on this list, just in case.

The same could be said for the Doom 4 Dev, the creator of Kingdom Come Deliverance, and a dozen other people. Unlike them he had been fired previously for stupid poo poo he said on twitter and social media, so it's likely either they found out about it on their own or GG just redirected towards that. Which is indeed hypocritical but something people here think is cool.

Almost always? If the purpose of the Autoblocker is to stop harassers and not just keep you from seeing people you disagree with, the reports seem to suggest the false positives are much higher than that.

If it's purpose is to just filter out dissenting opinion, you're golden. It'd still be stupid.

Solution: If you don't want to be flagged by this incredibly basic, open-source and fully documented autoblocker, don't go following all of Gamergate's biggest ringleaders on Twitter.

If you really can't resist the urge to fill your timeline with 8chan garbage and calls to 'correct' SJWs five times a day? Well, a lot of people won't want to hear from you. Deal with it.

If someone is upset that I'd block them on Twitter, presumably they want to talk to me! In fact, a lot have created burner accounts just to yell at me, which kinda proves that they really, REALLY care what I think of them. And then I block the burner accounts.

So for totally hypothetical reasons that aren't actually happening, it could be bad if something happened. True.

This is kind of an absurd reason to be afraid of it. If someone is doxxing everyone on that list, they could be doxxing everyone through some other method too--the fault is not the list, it's the moron doing the doxxing.

quote:

As again, it's a list of people they suspect of being harassers and Gamergate affiliates. That sort of accusation would be damaging to any respectable person's reputation.

This is a really enormous stretch. Can you actually name or show anyone using this list for any purpose whatsoever other than to block people on their twitter feeds?

Are you against all blocklists entirely? Do you understand their utility? I don't use twitter and the reason they exist seems instantly obvious to me.

quote:

There is no proof that this is currently happening, but we're not exactly privy to various HR units internal processes. I would rather not be on this list, just in case.

Again, the fault would be on the HR people then, not the list itself. This is similar to people freaking out about the industry-email-list that existed, citing that some people were using it to do bad things; if true, that's on the people doing the bad things with it, not the existence of the email distribution list itself.

I think Randy posted (or was going to post) the membership lists of public and member-only (but not private) gamergate facebook groups (which people joined voluntary). This was met with screaming about both doxxing (somewhat warranted, but that's unclear if its just names w/o links to profiles) and blacklisting.

I was amused that people thought blacklists were something you could sign up for.
