Sydal's a giant doofy hippie but I appreciate his earnestness and he's been killing it on the indies since he got released. On the subject of people no longer with WWE still keeping their twitter handles the same, Bill Carr is still @WWEDUTCH and he never even made it out of developmental.

Yes yes Jim Ross is an old racist, I suggest we organize a twitter mob to bombard the 63 year old gently caress into going away.

Wait, was JR just pushed into (kinda) pulling a compliment from a black person because someone went WHAT ABOUT BEING PROUD OF BEING WHITE, knowing other idiots would jump on the chance to whine about racism?

Not all racism is "I hate the niggers and the kikes, and outrightly state they are subhuman scum!!!", some is a little more subtle. Now JR is an old man, but saying someone is a credit to their race is like saying someone is "one of the good ones". Implying everyone else of that race is somehow bad. He pulled up on it, and I would be surprised if he meant it in any malicious way, but its the little insidious racisms like that that people need to be called out on, so they can realize that they are being unwittingly racist, and change their behaviour.

Good, unbiased take here from "Great White Hope." If you can't recognize "a credit to her race" as some backhanded Jim Crow-era bullshit, you either have poor critical reading skills or the sort of complete unfamiliarity with this country's racial history that ought to preclude you from speaking about it. Or you're trolling, I guess. Every conversation in this thread, basically: Poster 1: This person said something racist/homophobic/sexist. I think that's unfortunate. Poster 2: Woah, woah, woah. Slow down, PC Police! Actually, this bigoted statement is good because sometimes other people commit worse acts of bigotry.

Young Pageviews posted:Good, unbiased take here from "Great White Hope." People overreact because there are a lot of people in this country that honestly believe no one should be allowed to say things that they don't agree with anymore. Having your feelings hurt by words isn't an "attack" it's just something that happens to every human being. I'm sure JR says lots of things that are a lot worse than that, he's old. When he was growing up lots of things that we'd consider horrible now were pretty normal. I'd rather save my outrage for people whose actions are actually horrible, not just their words. Maybe I missed all the JR stories about him being a bigoted piece of poo poo who held down black people, but I think that was actually every other bigwig in wrestling history. So, I'd prefer we all just get mad at Vince McMahon for being a useless piece of poo poo instead. Well, also it's possible that JR did that too, but really gently caress Vince McMahon. Especially as in this case it seems pretty clear JR was attempting to praise someone and just did so in a clunky and dumb way. What an outrage. It's not like he threw around a bunch of n-bombs.

If people point out Dixie Carter is bad at e-mail, the backlash shouldn't be "JESUS CHRIST YOU DON'T THINK SHE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE COMPUTERS ANYMORE YOU COMPUTER POLICE. NEXT YOU'LL WANT TO BAN ALL COMPUTERS" If people blame Ryback for injuring people the backlash shouldn't be "OH MY GOD I GUESS YOU WANT TO BAN WRESTLING IS THAT IT? DO YOU NEED SOME SORT OF FEELINGS POLICE TO MAKE SURE NO ONE CAN GET HURT?" But when you suggest that maybe a wrestler or podcaster should choose their words more carefully, it is essentially an attack on free speech.

Having your feelings hurt by words isn't an "attack" it's just something that happens to every human being. I get that the way we express collective outrage through Twitter and the 24-hour news cycle can sometimes have a chilling effect on free speech by making it too risky to talk about controversial topics, but here's the thing: Go back through this thread and tell me where anyone expresses genuine outrage at JR or suggests that he should be punished in any way. In fact, JR's tweet was first posted here without comment, and the first response comes from someone complaining about the Twitter mob that never came (talk about being over-sensitive!). Every time someone here even implies that they thought a wrestling personality did something bigoted, The Reddit Brigade shows up to plant their flags in the ground for free speech and derail the conversation before it even begins. This defensiveness almost makes it look like these folks aren't withholding their outrage for the next time someone throws a bunch of n-bombs so much as they are saving it for the next time someone suggests people shouldn't be able to say something lovely without any consequences. TL;DR I doubt anyone here thinks JR should be punished, but in an ideal world, it would be nice if someone with that large a platform — even someone old and white and southern — were able to reconsider before making a comment that reinforces white supremacy.
