I've had a longterm unholy love for Rami Malek which is strange considering that I've only seen him in the last Twilight film, and the production of this series is hella stylish, so I've rather enjoyed what I've gotten from this so far. But I can definitely see this being one of those shows that end up pissing me off a lot. Every single character is some degree of unlikable. I hope Mr. Robot doesn't end up being some delusion or whatever because I really want to see someone take a real shovel to his real face at some point. But it's not just him, that whole little hacker group seems comprised solely of people who I would love to see on a rocket into the sun.

That being said, I kind of appreciate that Elliot's friend Angela is turning out to be practically as maladjusted as he is, or maybe even moreso because at least his brand of maladjustment is easy to identify. She came across a little idealized in the earlier episodes, being that one awesome girl friend that every shut-in wishes they had, but we're starting to see that she's got issues of her own that gently caress up the life she leads as well.

Every time I see Rami Malek in something, it makes me wonder if someone cloned Michael Shannon with some Egyptian DNA thrown in. They've both got that intense stare thing going with their eyes.

To what extent are they mutually intelligible, by the way? I remember the original Broen/Bron being Danish/Swedish, with characters on each side of the bridge speaking their own language and apparently mostly understanding each other. Is that realistic?

I like Gideon. He seems like a genuinely nice person who is trying to be a good boss.

Which is why I think something horrible is going to happen to him.

He probably just 'betrayed' the MC (by pointing out to the cops that the person who 'discovered' the data file had a grudge against... uh, Colby?). If he did, he may have a bit longer timespan. (Of course, if he'll want to clarify the situation with Elliot first, yeah, he's dead.)

That's pretty much how it is (with exceptions for regional dialects/accents), but definitely ok for places like Øresund where the bridge is.

Super unrealistic, danish speech is so garbled that even those that speak it can have trouble understanding each other if they're of a different dialect. A common joke in Scandinavia is that someone speaking danish might as well be having a coughing fit. I have no trouble at all interpreting written danish but speech is just barely understandable.

I was watching Unit 1 the other day... and even with subtitles the Danish was killing me.

It's such a weird language. I can sort of understand German, if it's spoken slowly and it's not too complex. But yeah, Danish is strange.

Really am enjoying the tone of this show, and definitely has glaring similarities to Fight Club and Dexter. I do hope the Durdening doesn't get stretched out the entire season and am hoping for some twists. I'd also like to see Elliot stray away from the main plotline and sort of go off on his own hacking adventures. The opening of the pilot was a good example, and more recently his little hacking story about the lone hospital IT guy was amusing too.

The whole organization as depicted -- their methods, their goals, and their justifications -- are all incredibly annoying. They framed a guy and were about to bomb people and most members probably didn't even know it and probably still don't know what any other member is up to. They're like children playing at being badasses for a cause none of them actually understand, which is unsurprising since most of them are in fact actual children.

Of course this premise would change a bit if it turns out that Elliot really is the one who's been behind everything, but not a whole lot. At best it makes them a bit less unlikable at the expense of making Elliot a bit more unlikable. Either way I'd still be rooting for them to get caught and arrested.

I'm thinking the twist is that there's no durdening and Slater turns out to be real. I'm also thinking the show would be better if the Slater character didn't exist and fsociety would be just an anonymous faceless thing on the internet. I still like it a lot tho, best new tv series since Gomorra imo

Also the show creator did an AMA on reddit where he said one of his main inspirations for the show was his experience in the Arab Spring in Egypt (both him and the main actor are Egyptian) and I'm wondering what does this show have to do with the Arab Spring? Are fsociety gonna start up a revolution or something?...

I agree with the theory above that the blond childhood friend is the villian.

No one is that naive, plus she was all about going along the blackmail until she saw push back from the boyfriend, whom I am liking more, because he is the fool. A good person would not worry about themselves automatically like that.

She's got that allsafe job and brought Elliot on. She knows Elliot would not perform the hack directly because she knows he has morals, but the boyfriend is the perfect mark.

My crazy internet theory (probably wrong) is that Mr Robot is, or has something to do with the VP at Evil Corp. Not the one that was arrested, the one that talked with Elliott about Gnome vs KDE.

All I'm going on is that he wouldn't be out of place talking to Elliott at Allsafe and it could explain the "Tell me you're seeing this" thing at the end of episode one. Of course, getting Colby arrested would open that job up for him and he sure seems like he'd do anything to move up in the company.

That said, I do find it very suspicious that I haven't noticed anyone looking at/addressing Mr Robot directly without Elliott being there (e.g. when they're at the hideout asking about the plan and Darlene (I think that's her name) seems to be looking at Elliott and Mr Robot conveniently steps right in front of him)... I think I'm talking myself out of my crazy theory and back to the Tyler Durden thing.

What was up with Gideon's comment about Elliott missing work? Other than the whole being in the hospital for an undetermined amount of time, I don't think there's been any other evidence of that. And Darlene (again, I think that's her name) mentioned it had been weeks since the Colby thing so is Elliott, and because of the whole unreliable narrator thing, the audience missing stuff that's happened in the interim?

I think she just thinks 1) Elliot turned him in and 2) he's going away for a really long time so my supply is screwed, and those two aren't related. I don't think she immediately figured out that Elliot managed to somehow get a ton of evidence together against the dealer.

Also I just caught up with the show and it's definitely not what I expected from a TV show about hackers on USA. Super into it so far, although I'm not sure how I feel about Mr. Robot. I mean, he's either clearly a Fight Club hallucination or the show is basically cheating and pretending he is by having scenes like the workplace scene that just don't make any sense if he ends up being real. With that said I'm assuming the show will feature him more as they get deeper into the plan since he's the namesake of the show and all, so I'm still interested to see what they do with it.

I dunno, the read I got on that scene was less "I believe you" than "I'm not going to push the issue" or "I don't believe you but I"m choosing to act like/tell myself I do." I don't think she knows Elliot is a vigilante hacker whatever guy but she has reason to be suspicious and those suspicions probably didn't go away just because Elliot said he didn't do it.

You forgot 0

0) Hack into the hospital computers and change his lab results to show NEGATIVE for opioids. As demonstrated in episode 3.

Edit: seems you're talking about his actual supply. My point still stands. Since he is hacking into the computers to change his results, it stands that he has access to the morphine from another source.

If I recall correctly from e2, it was the lack of suboxone suppliers more so than morphine suppliers that made him second guess flipping the dealer/raper to the authorities.

Don't forget that both of them have a personal collection of trophies per victim. Dexter with bloodstains, Elliot with CDs of hacked data labeled as music. As someone who was a big Dexter fan and watched it all the way through the awful seasons to the end, the parallels between that show and this one are of a high magnitude but, yes, so far Mr. Robot's hitting all the highs with none of the lows. I mean the latest episode even has the classic "I could get used to this normal life" arc that Dexter hit like 4-6 times across its whole series. It's just too much (and I love it.)
