xp reward is weird. I only did 13k damage (sunk Benson with torps for 3 Flood and 1 Devastating Strike), 1 Cap and 2 Assisted Cap with Sims and I got 1.6k base xp for a win. Sinking that Benson was pure luck, I shot torps at 3.5 km to Iowa but he died from full hp 5 seconds later to focused fire, and Benson just happened to be passing the torps' path. He was more amused than angry, which was cool.

always use AP in battleships, most ap will pen japanese cruisers, same or higher tier US cruisers are a crapshoot destroyers are probably all autopen with HE anyway. If you're very far away aim high to land on decks, if you're close go for the waterline directly under smokestacks or turrets. If you're in a miyogi just click wherever because your aim has no influence on the outcome whatsoever

I gutted it out and got myself a Langley... Sky cancer is pretty drat fun! Is there any way to rotate your drop pattern when using alt-drop for torpedoes?

I also branched out into ninja destroyers and am having a blast as well. I think it's just the slow rear end battleships and cruisers that are driving me nuts. Which tree should I pursue destroyers down, the U.S. or Japan?

afaik if you drag around the arrow indicator of bombers' intended drop direction you can change it.

US destroyers have good guns (wrecks other destroyers) and short-med range torpedo until you hit higher tier, whereas IJN destroyers have better concealment and long range torpedo.

e: US battleships are slow until you hit Colorado or North Carolina (28 knots), and US cruisers generally go about at 33~35 knots depending on ship.

I've found the 500g price loving exorbitant, so what I do is train the captain to the new hull with the 200k option, then use a premium ship to get him back up to 100%. The best part? Even though his skills will be 50% effective on the hull you trained him for, they'll be 100% effective on the premium ship.

I'm also kind of waiting until the day WG figures out that they could charge extra gold to 'refit' existing premiums. For instance, 2500g to add a tier-appropriate AA spread to the Arkansas Beta, or longer-ranged torpedoes to the Sims, etc.

tbh 500g isn't that bad if you compare with WoT which asks for 100g per crew so 200~600g per tank. But 200k option is the best regardless of whether you have premium ship or not. Paying 500g isn't a bad option if you have Commanders with many points though since it takes a while to get them from 50% to 100%.

Don't lose your head over it.
Everyone should play IJN destroyers at least up until tier 5. The Minekaze deserves a permanent spot in everyone's port like the St. Louis. Whether you continue on from there depends on your tolerance for the Mutsuki.

Edit: Replay for an object lesson in why going in a straight line at a constant speed is a bad idea. It was not an impressive game, just shooting torps along the grey indicator. The only thing that took a bit of skill was winning a gun duel with an Isokaze.

I noticed I do best with torpedoes when I'm not focused on it and rather use them opportunistically.

I manged to wade through the Langley and bought the Bogue then used free exp to unlock modules. I went with the 2 fighters and 1 dive bomber since I have a captain with the first 2 fighter perks. Dive bombing doesn't seem to do much damage but my fighters are pretty good at getting rid of the opposition. I've had clear skies 3 times in a row now and getting the hang of manual bombing (I missed one tenryu because quite shockingly he simply didn't move).

This seems to be the accepted usefulness of most of the IJN Cruisers, American Cruisers with torpedoes, and American DDs. They're not so much for killing off groups of ships with torpedo volleys and bullshit as they are for slapping people with guns until there's a single unescorted BB that might be a good torpedo target now that he's 6km away.

I swear Peniscola has lolpaper armor and whole hull is made out of citadel.

Got hit by Aoba's 9 out of maybe 100-150 AP shells from 12~14 km but managed to lose about 12k hp, probably 3~4 citadel hits :stare: Even more annoying when he'd only shoot me for 10 whole minutes even when there were others well inside his range, and all of his shells were AP (saw couple shots land at bad angle and bounce). Even after death his torpedoes barely missed me by like 2 meters when I was traveling straight to cut distance between map edge abusing New Orleans. Previous game I was losing 5~8k hp from Atlanta every time he did salvo shot, and getting hit at front or rear still resulted in citadel hit.

e: At least its xp reward seems alright. I'm regularly getting 1.5k base xp on win just doing 30~50k damage.

Then again I also had a langley 1v1 my fighter squad and totally destroy it with 0 loss to his fighters this last game. I'm still not sure how that happened. I have them fully upgraded, didnt manage to take down a single plane.

I tend to transfer captains. The xp required to retrain increases with tier, but usually it's about 10 games at normal average xp. I'd say at first it's good to keep a captain that's earned about 3-4 points already.

Am I a manipulative abuser in real life, or do I just roleplay one on the Internet for fun? You decide!
I would guess the higher tiers (5-6?) end up more profitable if you run flags. 50% more credits and 5% lower repair cost will make more difference than on tier 3s. It depends on how many flags you have though, and for some reason you're limited to one credit flag a day (compared to 10 experience flags).
I suppose if you really want to sperg out over your credit income, you just use the flags on tier 10s and credit grind in tier 3-5 without flags.

Just like they learned their lesson with the WoT preorder tanks. Provided WoWS is still a viable game in late June of next year, they'll have the Grem, Sims, and Yubari back for sale since they only have a one-year exclusivity clause on them. Just look forward to paying a premium for the Grem (which might not be as good at that point vOv).

Flags are consumables that are rewarded for achieving medals such as Confederate. You can't buy those.

And yes always focus on movement before shooting. Turning too late and getting yourself stuck because you focused too much on shooting is bad.
