Now, the actual Sam Elliott has arrived at the fuckbarn. It's an idea that barely needs three panels, but of course Muir. PS Sam Elliott is not actually a Republican cowboy who would hang out with Muir, which makes this whole thing even sadder than it already was.

Yeah the guy's no movie star, but he's fairly handsome and if he had the slightest charisma and/or self-awareness instead of a continuing descent into incomprehensible misogyny, he'd do pretty well in the romantic sphere. ToxicSlurpee posted:That and it's so bafflingly out of touch with reality. The common assumption of the religious right is that girls will immediately start loving everything at absurdly young ages just because birth control is available so the obvious answer is to ban all birth control so they don't. Pretty sure almost nobody starts doing it at 11. It also shows how much they like slippery slope arguments because as we all know the first time you have sex if you aren't married at the time a pack of cigarettes and a case of cheap beer just kind of...appear wherever you are and you immediately run off to buy cocaine. I guess because THEY are all inveterate sinners who constantly fall short of even the most basic of Christ's teachings, they assume everyone else is even worse. And seeing as all female sex is sinful, no surprise their only hope is to try and deny it happens, and to make it sound fatal once that fails.

He's using the typical conservative "these kids are innocent, so thinking about them having sex is horrifying; therefore we shouldn't offer them anything to do with sex". Well students, everyone thought gay marriage was so harmless. That there wouldn't be consequences to such sinful, wicked behavior. Turns out the harm is severe, and our cartoonists will show you the terrible reality that is our gay future. 1 Consequence one: the Beast comes to Earth, showing us that the tribulation is upon us. The seventh head, DEBT, was busy doing temp work for another cartoonist. 2 The next consequence is that revelations is in full gear. With Nuckols escorted to Heaven, his Facebook page only posts lovely image macros. Hey, if Hope n' Change can pull it off... 3 Then comes the horrible gay storms. Literal hail of more marriage redefining, and not all the whisky sours in the world can save us. 4 The Bible speaks little of Rainbow Justice and her massive erection of Due Process, but you can bet your rear end that Tinsley and his lovely trans jokes will be the first impaled upon her ebony blade. 5 People speak of Christ's Second Coming, but they never talk about his First Coming. It's super fabulous, if a little kinky. 6 And finally, gay marriage is going make otherwise civilized people go buck wild.

He writes about writing like he wants to seem like he knows a lot about writing. Also how the gently caress would a novel with a bunch of symbolism make English professors obsolete? Unless his novel is literally just the Cliffs Notes to itself, in which case, that novel already exists, it's called House of Leaves, and it's loving brilliant. And it inspired enough PHDs to create a whole new generation of English professors. Somfin fucked around with this message at 11:36 on Jul 12, 2015 |

I think the idea is that the novel already explained what it itself means, so English professors can't do their job of analyzing literature. Would a novel that expressly analyze its own symbols, conventions and metaphors in staggering detail then prohibit other analysis of that novel, thus making it "un-analyzable" to its consumers, rebirthing the Author? The Duck says Yes.
