Looks like squadron combat is becoming a thing -

quote:

Friends!

With one of the upcoming updates we will be introducing a new type of Squadron in to War Thunder: “Drill Squadrons”. Now, you can easily put yourself in to the role of Commander, and gather your friends for games as a team, it will be much simpler! Fulfill your dream of creating your own squadron! Improve your skills as a commander, train your staff, participate in squadron combat and tournaments!

The creation of of a Drill Squadron is much cheaper (250 GE + 10 000 SL), but it does have some restrictions:

In Drill Squadrons only has the roles of commander, officers, and rookies available. The role of the deputy commander isn’t available. The Commander can not pass his role to someone or leave the Drill Squadron. He can only dissolve it, or upgrade it to the status of Squadron.
A Drill Squadron has a limited number of members: 10 participants and 20 applicants (pending applications).
A Drill Squadron does not have a description, only a name, tag and motto.
The tag in a Drill Squadron may not be edited for display format (style).
A Drill Squadron may upgrade its status to the feature rich Squadron at any time in the edit menu for a fee of 2,250 Golden Eagles.
If you do create a Squadron, please be aware of the guidelines that are required in order not to break our rules.

We remind you that in the previous Update: 1.51 “Cold Steel”, we introduced the following changes to the system of Squadron roles and titles:

All new squadrons can now only have one Commander (Squadron Leader).
Commanders may appoint a Deputy Commander, but not more than one.
The Deputy Commander has the same privileges (powers) as the Commander, but can neither disband the Squadron, nor remove the Commander from the Squadron. They also cannot change their own role.
If the Commander leaves the Squadron, the Deputy Commander will automatically assume the Squadron leadership.
The Commander cannot leave the Squadron if another person has not been appointed as Deputy Commander.
If a Squadron that already existed at the time of the change has multiple Commanders appointed through the old rules, a newly promoted Deputy Commander will only assume leadership if the last regular Commander leaves the Squadron. All new Squadrons will be created in consideration of these new changes.

You can basically fly whatever you want and stop looking at battle ratings or climb rates. Coming from more serious sims you should have no problem in War Thunder the most notable difference is that there isn't much slipping in WT. The other big difference is that there's actually other players to shoot at.

Well, I got a pretty decent match in, actually managing to find a target and get the drop on him. My problem is with my throttle though. Is there a way to adjust the throttle sensitivity? I have it set up on my throttle axis, but for some reason I only have half the movement range of the throttle before it goes to WEP, and it is such little movement that I can't reliably set it at a proper throttle setting.

You want to enable Relative control I think. Its something with Relative in the name.

What Thief and I have done with great success so far is just a Goon in a bomber, and other(s) in fighters. People love killing bombers, and wingmen in fighters love bouncing unaware dorks who are tunnel-visioning bombers. Fighters get kills, bombers get to bomb and kill nerds too. Its a sweet combination!

If I'm reading that correctly, I was under the assumption that all I had to do was shoot down one enemy plane per battle to progress to the next stage, but I just finished my last battle with 3 plans shot down and apparently failed the wager.

To be honest, I don't understand the conditions for any of the wagers or orders. It's like they're written in moon language.

EDIT: Oh, I don't think my side had victory last match. Therein I met one of two conditions as laid out in a poorly worded wager.

List form would be great. :cripes:

I.e.,
    Conditions:
  • 1.) Shoot thing.
  • 2.) Win.
  • 3.) Don't lose.

I guess I'm mostly jaded from all of the other wagers I've tried (and failed) to achieve because they seem so impossible.

Case in point: Wingman wager.

How the hell am I supposed to actively attempt to not only merely assist my teammates in shooting down opposing planes, but do it more than anyone else on not only my team, but in the entire battle? Am I supposed to fly around buttering up enemy planes for my teammates to kill, being careful all the while that I don't accidentally shoot them down, and do it ten battles in a row? I'm supposed to go around and be a mild nuisance to the enemy and hope they won't mind? That doesn't make any goddamn sense.

Or did I just explain exactly what that wager is but because I've built up my turnfighters and nothing else I am wholly underprepared for B&Z type action and refuse to acknowledge that wager based purely on my inability to actually do it?

First, non-gold wagers don't really mean poo poo to anyone, so chill. Second, play as anything with lots of low caliber machine guns, and don't focus on confirming the kill. Fly a bomber through a dogfight, and you're gonna get on hand, like, every game.

As for golden wagers, I just lost the three matches it took to lose the whole thing, in a row, in spite of kicking rear end for my team otherwise. Is there a trick to getting a half decent team? Like, should I get my low level friends with first tier planes to log in as squad captain, join a poo poo tier match with them, and rape a bunch of biplanes in my Spitfire Mk Vc or something? Also, is that how I've seen Hortens in some of my low level matches?

So I just noticed the Tu-4 is on the list of upcoming aircraft, as a premium. Since we have the B-29 now, it shouldn't be too much longer. It's going to be very interesting to see the community reaction to a B-29 covered in 23mm cannons available for eagles.

Play RB, as in AB it is really hard to guarantee a victory. Fly a Yak-3, maybe that premium one at 3.0 BR. Read the fine print saying tier 3 or 4 vehicles. Win, possibly with the assistance of goons.

On Hand is actually a pretty easy wager to farm for money, right up there with Thunderer. It's especially easy if you're farming On Hand with a buddy farming Terror of the Skies. Just shoot a dude and let your buddy get the kill. Something to remember on all the lions wagers is that if you succeed once before failing out you're typically solidly in the black, and failing out halfway through is still like 10x your money back.

The only wager I'm not sure how to intentionally do at least enough to stay clearly in the black is Mission Maker.

That's because Mission Maker is literally the dumbest award...which is saying something considering the other awards. To be fair, on its own its not such a bad thing, just a freebie for getting the first and last kill. However when you make a wager based on it Mission Maker goes from a dumb but fun freebie to utterly idiotic. It's really pure luck to get both the first and last kill in a match.

Yeah that's the thing, you have a decent shot at guaranteeing yourself the First Strike by just helldiving on AAA from the beginning, but I just can't reliably guarantee Final Blow even deliberately watching ticket totals and being prepped to vulture a tank. Too often the last 5+ tanks eat it in a single bombing run by another plane and that's that.

Seriously though, on Wager Chat: Anyone having a hard time succeeding at wagers that isn't doing them in a 4-man goonsquad has only themselves to blame. 3.0 AB Americans and 3.3 AB Soviets are pretty much "how much money would you like to print?" with wagers.

Wrong. You and your squad could get 5 billion kills and somehow still lose in Arcade. RB and SB can be won by teamwork. It is rarer that RB or SB is lost while playing with a squad. Seriously, you pretty much cannot control the outcome of AB matches.

Rare it is the RB match that cannot be swung by sheer domination. Example being 7/11 kills, losing because a PBY wouldn't engage the sole remaining Ki-10. Ki-10 noticed 1 artillery stood between it and victory. I should have rammed him or not have biffed those shots in my Hurricane MkIV. (insert pic here)

Only advantage the M46 has is that its at least its not the M47. As that only plays against BR8 tanks, which it cant damage any of them frontally until you have ground out 100k RP, and even then you need another 100k RP to unlock the really good ammo.

M46 really needs dropping to BR 6.7 and the M47 dropping to BR 7. Would fix the issues to both of them, yet wouldn't be over powered.
