I hope someday JRPGs return to when they were generally well paced and not overly grindy or filled with extraneous poo poo. I don't want 80 hour Tales games or Persona's social links and whatever. Just give me a nice, tight 20 or so hour JRPG with some unique mechanics that don't overstay their welcome or need some guide for making god use of.

atlus is a p. good jrpg company that makes games for a wide range of people in terms of tone and difficulty and it makes me lol when people get mad that they don't make games exclusively for one kind of audience

Nocturne is still peak mainline SMT for me. I wouldn't say no to V, but IV felt like a definite step down from its predecessor, so I'm a little shaky on the future of the core franchise.

oh lol Sho in Getter Robo Go is a woman. I thought the guy in volume one was just insulting him, but in the intro of volume two it says she's a woman

I almost want to applaud that guy's dedication to no tits in his comic

i agree that a lot of games are padded as gently caress to the point of becoming boring, but I don't think JRPGs have been generally grindy for a long time

though this is more of a general videogames thing more than anything since people are obsessive about their dollar to hour ratio, though I expect that the people who are really obsessive about that stuff are the type that doesn't play most of the games they buy anyway

Girls und Panzer is just a lot of fun. It's got girls who have tank battles and even some fun musical moments. it never gets dark or overly dramatic. I think it's like why other people like K-on, only K-on doesn't have tank combat.

Tanks do make everything better.

Actually, I'd say Nocturne is a shoe-in for people looking for a leaner, meaner JRPG experience.

SMT IV is my favourite but I understand where the complaints about it are coming from. It's a shame my PS3 broke and I don't have anything to play Nocturne on.

I love the whole win fast or die even faster thing SMT IV has going for it.

I agree that ~20-30 hours is a generally good max length for games though. there are exceptions, but generally when you see a game advertise that it has 80 or 200 or a billion hours of gameplay there's no loving way that a good chunk of those hours are actually fun or enjoyable
