Seriously, a scathing editorial, you should read it. I don't know how representative the Register's editorial board is of Iowa as a whole, but their criticisms are devastating.

If only Trump had a sense of shame.

I agree with the premise but not the conclusion. Trump didn't rise out in a vacuum, he is only slightly more vile and stupid than the rest of them running, he is only better at grabbing attention than them. I think it is wrong to blame Trump for rising out of the cesspool that the GOP has been creating over the last few years, his only crime is refusing to use the dog whistle.

"Make America Great Again"

Has anyone pressed Republicans yet on why they keep making GBS threads on America in this election? For all the rightful concern about income inequality for most American's this isn't such a bad time, the economy is doing well, we have low unemployment, lots of people can afford healthcare that couldn't before, violent crime is down.

Yeah there is a black thug in the White House and faggots can get married but does telling your average voter that the country is a shithole right now really resonate with the center?

Pinterest Mom

Winning a primary isn't about resonating with the centre. The centre in a republican primary electorate is probably something like the 85th percentile of right-wingness in the country.

I've mentioned this before, but I know at least one person that's "Sanders or, barring that, Trump!".

See: Voters who dislike insincere politicians with carefully crafted messages, voters who dislike the establishment, voters who dislike "dynasties", voters who dislike waffling in response to public opinion polls. Many of these people will choke down their dislike and vote for Hillary if the only alternative is voting for a Bush, but given an out, a third option that is none of those things, they will seize it.

Trump has convinced people he:
Believes the things he says wholeheartedly, doesn't apologize, doesn't back down.
Is not a career politician or even a politician at all, nor does he come from a family of politicians.
Does no one's bidding but his own,
Etc. and so on.

Additionally, he supports national healthcare and stuff, while also talking about how bad illegals/Mexicans are (and plenty of Democrats hate illegals/Mexicans).

It's not surprising in the slightest, there's lot of reasons for someone to switch from Hillary to Trump.

The subset of people that will actually do this is roughly the size of the loons who went from Hillary to McCain in 2008 because Obama was black--they will not be nearly enough to matter. Like at all.

They won't matter because their votes will be siphoned to a third party and more will be siphoned from Bush than Hillary, not because they are small (although they are pretty small as well, they are also large enough to matter in the right situation). This was brought up specifically in response to people being amazed that Hillary loses what appears to be 8% of her supporters to a third party Trump and how they couldn't believe anyone would switch from Hillary to Trump - I was merely explaining some of the mindsets that would make that switch, not saying they are yooge portion of voters or anything.

It's a large enough portion of voters that if they all poofed tomorrow, Hillary would be nearly tied with Bush in the polls instead of beating him hands down.

The business assets of the President are typically put in a blind trust during their tenure, though I'm not sure whether that's just practice or required by law. I suspect the former.

A study suggests that U.S. senators possess stock-picking skills that even the most seasoned money manager would envy. During the boom years of the 1990s, senators' stock picks beat the market by 12 percentage points a year on average, according to the study. Corporate insiders, meanwhile, beat the market by about six percentage points a year, while U.S. households underperformed the market by 1.4 percentage points a year on average, according to separate studies. The final details of the study will be published in the December issue of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.

Even if there's no actual law saying "presidents must place their assets in a blind trust", in practice a president wouldn't be able to maintain direct control of their assets without triggering an SEC investigation for insider trading three to five times a day.
