There's a bunch of CBs with nomads, but the most powerful ones are either once-per-lifetime, require a few hundred prestige, or require the clan to be near it's population cap. So they probably take a break after each war to let their prestige grow and let their pop fill up their new territory. They always have CBs to conquer a single county from a neighbour or make tributaries, though. The AI might need a nudge to be more proactive with them, but I've already seen nomads get as far west as Saxony so I don't think they need to be more aggressive.

Is it me or are nomads actually not fun? For the first couple hours it was great, but after you're powerful enough to rofl stomp the blobbed Abassid Empire, there really isn't much point for me... And you can get to that point pretty quick.

Is there an upper limit to the amount of clans you can have? If someone were to do a WC would they be able to keep making new clans and giving 5 counties to each clan? Or is there going to be a point at which there's 10 clans with 200 provinces or whatever each?

Yeah, I have 9 clans, and they have like 9 provinces each and then me with a lot more. I kind of wish it went higher than 9.

So what's the way to determine if you can still get achievements in an Ironman save? I know that CTDs in EU4 can take away ironman status, and I've had two CTDs in the last year of playing. But "Achievements CAN be gained" doesn't seem to be a feature in this game. e: 3 times. Think the save may be borked.

Doctor Schnabel posted:I wonder if this is a prestige issue. I don't have Horse Lords yet, so I don't know what (if anything) changed with cb's, but I ran an observer game just now and I noticed the Mongols were just chilling around after one war because they needed like 500 prestige to start the next one. Are you playing ironman? If not, could you try consoling over to whoever's leading your mongols and dumping a bunch of prestige in his lap? I'm genuinely curious to know how the piles of GH/Ilkhanate event troops interact with the new nomad dynamics I'm starting to think you're correct regarding prestige - or perhaps population. Sadly my game is ironman so no consoling here. Part of my frustration is that the GH/Ilkhanate events never fired. There was a single unified Mongolian empire, but it did nothing. My fear is that this is a failing of the new "dynamic" Mongol invasion events and something's no firing right, as often happens with these things when they're new.

Things for nomads: Please make pillaging 300 baronies less tedious. give them to an AI to autopillage for me, or something. give them ownership and have them run the pillage decision every time its up, until the hold is entirely gone. Make a seperate popup for pillaging and settling as feudal/whatever; these are like two completely opposing ideas, blow things up, or sit down in your (probably pillaged to hell) holds that you still have left because the 300th time you pillaged something you didn't read the notification and settled down; there should probably be an additional prompt if you are changing government types.

Looks like the patch is officially up now. I like the info button on the side of your character that brings up the "you are playing as a [culture] [government] [religion]" page when you click on it. My Manichean/other Mazdaists mod is progressing pretty well so far. Manichean and its heresies now have their own holy sites and Manichean rulers can establish a new head of religion if they 1) are an empire, 2) hold either Baghdad or Samarkand, and 3) hold 3+ religious sites. The Archegos can't call crusades, but they can grant divorces and excommunicate Manichean characters. Currently I only have one heresy for Manicheanism: Albenensian, which works mostly the same as Manicheanism but doesn't have a HoR, and can intermarry with Gnostic Christian heresies. Their priests also wear Christian outfits rather than Mazdaist ones. I've also been fleshing out the remaining Zoroastrian heresies. Zoroastrian rulers no longer can do parent/child religions, which is now exclusively for the Zurvanist heresy. Zurvanists otherwise are the same as Zoroastrians, and can also form their own Moabadan-Moabad. Mazdakis are a lot different from the other Zoros though– while you can't actually do a playable protosocialist commune in CK2, I tried to stick some of their other tenets into their gameplay. Think of it as a feudal nobility sponsoring a populist religion rather than Anarcho-Socialist Commune Squabbles 2. Sacred incest and concubinage are forbidden in the Mazdaki religion, and women can be priests. Their anti-clericalism is represented by priests being forbidden to inherit titles. However, a Mazdaki emperor can become the secular head of religion– the Shahan-Moabad, or King of Priests. My next few tasks are to finish localization for decisions and to create the event for the Manichean Holy Order to show up. I'll also add in decisions/event trees for Manichees to observe the Bema festival and for Zoros to celebrate Nowruz.

I can't figure out why my mod keeps crashing at the "loading flags" screen. The Validator keeps telling me poo poo like "Dynasty 88 is not connected, but has groups [238, 248, 251, 253, 255, 237, 249, 250, 252, 254] [268] [239] [269]" and I have no clue what that means. Forming a Manichean Pecheneg e_roman_empire is all the incentive I need to settle (Nomads might get dull eventually, but at the minute they're just a really refreshing break from standard CK2 gameplay. "Remember all that fiddly poo poo you had to worry about as a feudal? HA! LET'S GO RAZE CONSTANTINOPLE." Actually, in the context of the greater game, that might be all nomads really need to be. They don't have to be varied enough to constitute an entire game unto themselves; they're already situated in a fairly diverse ecosystem.)

So if you had two characters in the von Dorfmark dynasty, you would have to make one the child of the other. Although I admit that I was generalizing grossly about Turkic peoples, who are no doubt hugely diverse, but I can't help but to think that there might be a slightly stronger resemblance between people who live in the same region(which admittedly is huge) and speak related languages than between people in Ireland and people in the Maghreb. Who speak totally unrelated languages and live in totally different regions. Sidenote: Back when the Ottoman Empire was at it´s height "Turk" became synonymous with Muslim in a lot of places. Much like how "Saracen" and "Moor" had before. For example in Iceland it became legal to kill any and all Turks after a slave raid in 1627. However no Turks were actually involved in the raid. The ships were out of Algeria but the captain was Dutch and most of the crew were either Algerian or European pirates who had migrated to the Barbary. The Hungarians were also seen as being Turks by the Byzantines but I think that might have been because they were Tengriist nomads.

Can anyone provide a quick bit of advice? I'm a bit behind the times and only just got The Old Gods tonight. I was having an absolute blast with the subjugation CB, but then I conquered the kingdom of Denmark when they were weak, which tripled my territory and ended my ambitions of further subjugation Now that all that is done, I am seemingly making - 2 gold per month and I keep getting seriously pissed off vassals (I think of the people I have conquered) who continuously start very powerful factions against me. Is there some kind of Viking play style mechanic I'm overlooking to make more money/keep my guys in line, or did I just kind of screw myself through rapid expansion?
