Those vader and corran rulings are really bizarre, I'm guessing there's some underlying mechanic they are emphasizing, but I don't really see it.

This is how it was originally and I prefer it. It might "take less skill" but honestly it's just one of those skills that don't really add anything to the game. The spatial awareness for FOV is much more important.

I was hoping the triple stress YV might help drive the 2 ship meta away but I kinda think it would hurt everything else bad, too.

Are people going to be that upset about the few edge cases where someone mistakenly would have gone off the board? Or the inability to remove a target from a phantom?

It's not a big deal, but it made it risky to try and barrel roll towards the table edge to try and dodge an arc, or pop into a higher range band. Now it's a no-brainer since there's no risk at all.

I think it makes more sense, since now it works the same as obstacles, but it does affect how people will play near table edges. Also makes it much safer to approach the edge in general.

Yes. No.

You perform the action, gain stress, reveal a red manoeuvre while stressed, so the opponent gets to change your manoeuvre per the rules for doing a red while stressed.

Got 3rd in a small club tourney today running Kath with Opportunist, HLC, and Greedo escorted by a few Zs. Could have done much better if hadn't spent most of my time crashing Kath into every asteroid on the board. Mostly Fat Han and Stress Decimator/Vader lists with a darkhorse Z swarm almost taking first place. 6+ Zs unloading at once evaporated Han.

Barrel rolling or boosting never allowed you to fall off the edge until 1-2 FAQs ago. People always played that way until then. The old FAQs specifically said you couldn't fall off the edge and it's just reverting back to that.

The kid who won wisconsins regional is currently playing the final game. Hes got his corn horn, biggs, jake list vs fat han + fringer. His first top 8 game he soloed 5 ties with coran after biggs and jake died.

EXX list in regional finals? Clearly, X-Wings need a fix.

Jake is an a-wing. Biggs is one of the only viable x-wings.

edit: also obviously it's super silly to say one regional result is a reason not to fix a ship. given that he was playing against Han + Fringer... we have no idea what the competition was like there.

was there a time when speedwagon didn't get trolled
I recently swung down to a hobby shop for the first time in a decade to check out this X-Wangs thing. I picked up a starter set and a super nice local player ran me through a few demo games(first with the starter set rules, then with an extra couple fighters borrowed from his collection) just to give me a feel for it and I had a lot of fun, so I'm going to actually invest in getting a force of my own. I was originally planning to play Imperial due to a childhood love of TIE Fighter, but after doing a bunch of reading in this thread and through google I'm shying away from what seems to be the most commonly effective Imperial lists(gigantic swarms of basic TIEs don't really appeal).

Instead, for my main squadron I think I'm leaning towards Scum, simply because I'd really like to run a Firespray as my centerpiece(again due to a childhood love for the ship design). For a new player, is this a terrible idea? What sort of supporting force for it would be reasonable for a new player to handle? For now I'm leaning towards simply buying a Slave 1 box and a Most Wanted box, but I'm open to potentially grabbing more if I really need to.

I was also thinking of putting together a tiny side force on the cheap to play with my teenage cousins with my "main" force as an opponent, probably rebels. Would one of those three fighter/high pilot skill lists(XXX or XEA) that have been being talked about be a terrible idea for a new player looking for a secondary force on the cheap?

You could always play an elite squad of tie pilots in interceptors or advanced. Only need 3-4. With the upcoming buff to tie advanced, the archetype is posed to be v competitive and you could always proxy the cards unless you're looking to do tournaments.

The 8 tie swarm hasn't been in vogue for quite a while. You've got a lot of options in the imperials including imp Boba Fett, who, while not as good as scum Fett, has an interesting ability combined with navigator. Imperial Kath can pack the stress on people, too. I think you can make it work with firespays and less numerous imperial options.

Quick question- bought a bunch of stuff early on but I haven't found anyone locally I like playing with- what would be a fair price to ask for 2 starter sets, Slave 1, Imperial Aces, and the Rebel Transport? They're all in perfect condition except for one Tie that I had to glue onto the riser stick and they've been sitting in a big Plano case forever.

When the new TIE Advanced cards come out, how are you guys planning on running them? Here's what I was going to proxy tomorrow:

Darth Vader, Title, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II, VI, Advanced Targeting Computer
Juno Eclipse, Title, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II, Predator, Advanced Targeting Computer
Soontir, Title, PTL, Autothrusters, Stealth Device

I'm not sure if I should skew toward making the Advanced more beefy or making them more lethal. Do you guys think the new cards are going to make them viable?

I feel like Juno doesn't really need the modification that much, unless you're really banking (:v:) on needing those three banks to be green. That's the only maneuver on her dial that will actually change. I feel like an initiative bid will be useful much more often than a single green three bank that you might actually need once every five games.

That's gonna happen in any game but must be done this way in their business model. Its a necessary evil unless you prefer the compilation cross-faction release style or just plain newer versions that patch the old ones. The latter is practically the same as what FFG does but at least you get a different ship with it and not just buying the same one again.

E: for the record I would actually prefer the compilation style where you get a bunch of revised bases and cards for ships WMH style. But eh I guess their way nets them more money and gets people invested in other ships lol.

I think the big upgrade is actually accuracy corrector because you can use your actions entirely defensively which improves that fighter a good bit.

No doubt. Ion engine on a TIE Advanced feels like wasted points. Especially on Vader, who doesn't need to be doing poo poo that stresses him ever. Like seriously, what on Earth are you going to be doing with Vader to stress him that the current greens don't take care of but that will also be improved by the engine?

The engine is a Defender upgrade, and maybe a fun take on half of a TIE Swarm. It doesn't do a lot for the Advanced, and Vader in particular doesn't care.

Someone please tell me that I'm not the only one who thinks Y-wings are borderline unusable in this game. A lot of people say X-wings are underpowered/overcosted but at least I can get some use out of them. But whenever I try a Y-wing it's just a useless flying poo poo bird that explodes within two turns of enemy contact.

Are they just that bad or am I doing it wrong? Does anyone have an example of a good rebel deployment utilizing a Y-wing?

Rebel Y-Wings are OK with the title and stress bot. Only Gold squadron though. Rebel Y-Wing pilots are basically trash.

Scum Y-Wings are pretty good because they have good Astromechs and good pilots.
