Can someone recommend me some good modern spy movies that are not the Bourne series? I loving love a great spy thriller. e- On second thought, they don't even have to be modern. Cold war and up will do just fine.

are there any directors who do stylish colorful horror/thriller movies as good as mario bava. ive watched all his movies and theyre great, particularly blood and black lace, but the only other movies ive seen that come close to doing the same thing are a couple argento movies (suspiria, inferno) and the masque of the red death.

Can I get a recommendation for something to watch with my mum? She doesn't really like films with graphic sex or violence, so something Rom-Commy or feel-good is more what I'm looking for.

That's pretty accurate, actually. If you want just generally psychedelic visuals or interesting periodic use of color I could suggest some things. Lamberto is pretty great, but it's still a different ball game.

From Beyond uses a big, magenta light during plenty of scenes. Zardoz isn't strictly horror but the visuals are nice. Demons uses color really well. Terrorvision is really, really garish.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is more drama/adventure with extremely colorful and psychedelic like few other movies are. Enter the void is its own thing; highly colorful and EXTREMELY psychedelic... like maybe too psychedelic. Laverna posted:Can I get a recommendation for something to watch with my mum? So I finally have a giant TV and a new apartment where I can view some movies the best way possible (besides in the actual theater). I really want to catch up on some classic movies that are better on the big screen, and grab some bluRays to watch. First on the list is Terrance Malick (I haven't seen any of them). Any other off the cuff recommendations for Gorgeous classics on blu-Ray?

I definitely agree with Slaapaav. Lawrence of Arabia is a gorgeous film, and it received one of the best blu-ray transfers I've seen. Other suggestions: 2001: A Space Odyssey Ben Hur The Godfather Trilogy North by Northwest Seven Samurai The Wizard of Oz (less epic in scope, but very colourful and an amazing transfer) Anything from Disney, Pixar, or Ghibli (animated films in general greatly benefit from the HD upgrade)

I picked up Days of Heaven when the current B&N Criterion sale kicked off and can confirm it looks fantastic and is a wonderful movie. Eraserhead looks great also. It was the first Blu Ray I watched on my new large LED when the black scenes were totally black. As in it was like the TV was off. Very cool..
