What are the first BBs for each side that won't scatter the shots from a single turret over and under or in front and behind your target at a reasonable distance?

South Carolina and Kawachi both feel real awful

I don't get all the Myogi hate. Coming from the Kawachi it's definitely an upgrade. Sure, the turret layout is suboptimal but just approach targets at a 45 degree angle and all guns can fire, and you can glance quite a few shots. My only complaint is the rather low AP numbers at range. The pagoda hull is fully sick, the AA shot down 11 planes in one match. And the scout plane is hilarious. Did the Kawachi just set the bar really low? Or will I be amazed by the Kongo?

Do ship classes share XP? Like if I got two Phoenixes for example, and alternated between them because I'm terrible, would they share the same XP pool, getting me closer to the next ship?

Yup, the matchmaker is the problem, not carriers themselves. Carriers need to be evenly matched, or it is no fun for anyone. Who cares if carrier players have to wait longer for matches?

I had a retarded game earlier where it matched a tier 7 carrier versus a tier 4 because the 4 was in a division. It wasn't even in a division with a higher tier. It was three tier 4s in a division on one team when the other team was all tier 5-7. I don't think the game lasted more than 7 minutes.

Seconding this, because it applies to people playing carriers too. Just got my Ryujo, and both matches I've been in so far I've been bottom tier, with a fully stock loadout. In matches filled with Pensacolas and Atlantas, with a few upgraded Colorados wandering around too, my planes just die. I've had torpedo bomber squadrons simply disintegrate from full to zero on the run in against a lone BB before they could even drop. This makes it kinda hard to actually gain the exp necessary to upgrade stuff so I don't just die. Second game had the added "fun" of a fully upgraded Ranger running a fighter loadout too on the enemy side along with multiple higher tier cruisers. Those fighters could kill my squadrons, including my fighter squadron, in literally 2-3 seconds along with being significantly faster, which given it's only one tier above me is hilariously stupid.

You can't get two of the same ship unless one version is a premium, which still wouldn't help you.

I think I hit the money wall. Have the exp to get the Ranger, but not the 6 million credits. It is taking a painfully long time to grind up the money.

The good thing is I am grinding exp on my Destroyer Cruiser and Battleship in the process.

Personally, I wouldn't try to actively get anything onto the Nagato's secondary range. Just let things wander into you.

People seem to have the idea that the Nagato is a great brawler or whatever because of the extra kilometer range on the secondaries, when often trying to get to that range is asking for a fistful of shells. I think the Nagato's a good brawler because you have eight 410mm guns that are horribly ineffective at anything past 15 kilometers, start to get good at 15-10 kilometers, and can really ruin someone's day at anything below that. Plus you have good armor (albeit, big citadel), a healthy chunk of hitpoints, and nice rudder shift speed with the upgrade.

The secondaries are just a nice added bonus. Start ignoring their range and start paying attention to your rudder shift and moving in and out of hard cover, until you're in that magic 10 kilometer range: that's all it took for me to go from lovely 500xp games to monster 1500xp ones. You'd be surprised to how much more effective you are, and surprisingly, to the number of people that bumble into your secondaries range.

Yeah, but I'd have been dead as hell if a lot of the shots that hit my Phoenix while the stearing was out had been AP. They had a clean shot at my side and a predictable trajectory from the damage, instead I survived the round.

Well if cruisers can't fight and use their nice dps, they are pointless. Shooting planes or invisible zig zagging destroyers like an idiot doesn't sound very appealing.

No, you just don't flatten your drat side out to people shooting you when they have shells loaded. It turns out those ships are very good at engaging while not doing so, with the Phoenix great at weaving with its nose or stern pointing at the enemy and the Omaha capable of that or just sharply angling its belt. Between that and speed sufficient to control the terms it engages under, presenting a sufficiently flat broadside to citadel is easily avoidable and thus a mistake.

It's like saying heavy tanks should point their nose at the enemy if they don't want to get hurt.

Or they could play their ships according to those ships' many strengths rather than their weakness?

Cruisers that couldn't dpm battleships down would be really weak. They're already weaker than they were in patch 4.0, US especially.
Destroyers are weak, and it doesn't seem likely for them to become the strongest class, so beating destroyers isn't enough. AA is nice, but something teamwork dependent like cruiser AA isn't enough to make a useful ship class.

In practice this game is tanks at sea. There's no real mechanism encouraging teamwork, and platoons are good in tanks too (probably even better, if you don't count the effect of a good carrier player). Cruisers and destroyers have to be able to compete against capital ships in pub matches, where area denial and "forcing a battleship to turn its guns away from your teammates" are hardly worth anything at all.

It's fine for ship classes to have strengths and weaknesses, but "it's weak to battleships" is a bullshit excuse for nuances in the ship types, just as battleships being unable to respond to carrier attacks is awful gameplay.

edit: Being relatively difficult to citadel hit isn't enough. Cruisers at most tiers can't citadel hit battleships at any sort of range. If the HE/fire option goes away, and battleships stay relatively immune to cruiser AP, pub match cruisers are an inferior version of battleships (q.v. start of closed beta).

I'm not actually sure if you're saying this though, so this post might be completely unnecessary!

It's pretty handy that neither the Phoenix nor the Omaha have to flatten their sides out to apply their DPM to other ships, and in fact have strengths in their speed, maneuverability and gun layouts that let them mitigate the disadvantage of weakly armored citadels that can reliably cause massive damage if and only if they flatten their side to the enemy. This is actually what I was talking about, not some fever dream imagination of my argument that somehow makes it out to be saying hard counters are cool and good rather than it not being a big deal if a ship punishes mistakes if they are in fact mistakes and not mandatory inevitabilities.

Not really, unless you're below tier 6. The increase in damage dealing capability isn't commensurate with the increase in other ships' ability to defend themselves against destroyers. They aren't categorically awful but they're distinctly weaker than average once you get out of low tiers.

Ahh, that'd do it. I think it's mostly got to do with the Phoenix/Omaha and the Japanese light citadels because the rest can get away with just angling their belt, they're much tougher under fire in general.

Wargaming open beta trailer is a lot like rock/paper/cisor.
Battleship > Cruiser
Cruiser > Destroyer
Destroyer > Battleship

But since it isn't very fun to be helpless in a duel each class is able to do something against its predator: BB accuracy was buffed at close range, high tier cruisers turn slowly and are big targets for torps and rapid firing cruisers are fire pissing monsters.

I don't see how the high HE damage cruisers put out is balanced by higher accuracy of BB guns at shorter ranges, which I don't even find to be true. Atlantas and Atagos can actually kite battleships, the battleship has to get a super lucky hit at range or find some cover to get out.

Look at any ship you own, compare the HE to the AP damage and realize something's wrong.
