The only fights that poo poo me as BLM are A2 because I'm guaranteed to gently caress it up and lose Enochian while stuff spawns, Bismark EX (tornados) and Neverreap (TORNADOS). Seems a few people have done the obvious and swapped to SMN which has the benefit of sharing gear mostly.

BLM is still lots of fun for me though, so I'll stick with it.

I switched to SMN and it's been pretty good. It's definitely a change, but I find dreadwyrm trance to actually be a fun mechanic, while enochian ... isn't. I'd like BLM a lot better if you couldn't extend enochian and BLM damage was balanced around just using it as a DPS increasing cooldown that let you make big booms. That might actually be fun.

As someone who has all their crafters at 50+, I honestly could not tell you where to find mender NPCs anymore because it's more expensive and less convenient than self repairing. You can go longer between repairs since self repair can set your durability higher than 100%, and when you open your character sheet and go "oh look at all that gear with green durability bars" you can just right click, click, click and you've repaired it all, instead of "well I should go find the nearest mender NPC!" and then having to interrupt whatever you were doing to go get your poo poo fixed.

Plus I mean... people are lazy about things like repairs. I was doing A2 and as the last trash pull ended I watched the WAR's HP go from 18k to 13k. Half his poo poo broke and he didn't have any crafters leveled so he had to leave the instance.

Deep-Fried Okeanis is drat cheap. Even if you've got a 40k gil recipe with enough quality that each turn-in is getting you 26 red scrip it's still ~17 turn-ins for that particular week. That's a lot of gil for most people for a "cheap" week of scrip. The problem I have is that I can't figure out who they were catering any of the DoH changes to because everything seems flat out more insane than it was in ARR unless you're already rolling in money from being a 4 star omnicrafter (or being that guy supplying all the glamour prisms all the time).

What are their expectations? That people who aren't serious omnicrafters will level a class and then just quit after crafting Chimerical gear?

What's really funny is that Yoshida said several times that he wasn't happy with how the 2.0 crafting system pushed everyone into omnicrafting and that the crafting progression catered to people who could handle the incredible grind for improved tools, who had lots of money. And that he wanted to change crafting to make it more accessible to more casual crafters.

What he ended up doing was creating a system where all the rich people who can max meld i150 can completely skip Keep gear and jump straight to Master, for a much lower scrip cost. Casual crafters who don't have the resources to perfect 150 gear have to use Keep as a stepping stone meaning they are weeks and weeks behind, forever, all the richer crafters. You are actively punished for not being an omnicrafter with a house made of solid gold and mastercraft demis. When 3.2 drops and they start incremental improvements to the crafting gear you better believe Master + Melds is going to be required to get them and everyone else can go get hosed.

Really what I think they want is a system where all the crafters focus on a couple crafts, and make items for those crafts, and sell them to specialists in other crafts for the recipes they want to make. Do you know what that is? That's the loving 1.0 crafting system which was so bad that they couldn't wait for 2.0 to change it, they needed to rip the guts out of that system before the servers went down. Before they started charging people money to play the game again.

Edit: For a development team which usually has their finger right on the pulse of player psychology I'm pretty surprised that when they were talking out crafting changes no one thought to mention that all these changes make being an omnicrafter much harder, but people both like and are used to being omnicrafters. Players never, ever like having their toys taken away very much.

On the other hand if you max out your red scrips you can deck out one class with all the all the 180 main left side pieces + weapon by the time 3.1 releases.

I mean it's still way worse than max melded 170 but still.

It's sort of a magnitude of scale in this case. In order to deck out more than one of your crafting classes in this manner via the "slow road" of 180 unmeldable gear is going to take months and months on end and there's no way around that. Not even including if you want to complete your set with the new crafted offhand, belt, and jewelry.

The #1 run killer on A2 is a single tank picking up the two Jagds with few/no cooldowns and unprepared/low MP healers suddenly seeing a single tank's health vanish in a few seconds from the cleaves.

Also, what's making you run out of MP? Are you a WHM/AST? I've done the fight multiple times on SCH and have almost always come out the other end with several thousand MP remaining, even while DPSing, unless I muck up and forget to mash the Aetherflow button every time it's up.

I'm a WHM. I use Shroud of Saints and Assize as appropriate, but they're on 120 and 90 second cooldowns, respectively and my MP always ends up depleted around the last phase of the fight, especially if/when I have to start using Medica I/II to keep everyone healthy. Crafting would be saved for me if there was a Ixali-style draily collectible, that didn't require any real ingredients. If you do well on that each day, you don't need to do any real turn-ins, but if you miss a day, or do poorly on the collectibility score, you can use the normal turn-ins.

Also, put in scrip belts and rightside, and like halve the price of everything.

Crafting was just made harder across the board for omnicrafters and non-omnicrafters alike. Ironically, this makes omnicrafting more beneficial than ever. They didn't kill omnicrafting, they encouraged it.

The part I really don't get is that it takes more time and gil to get a single set of red scrip gear than to level all crafters to 50, maybe even 60. Even getting the artisans gear for 4 star was itself vastly more difficult and expensive than to simply level all crafts to 50. It's been said in this and the prior thread at least a dozen times, "go ahead and get all your crafters to 50 so you can repair your own stuff, but don't bother with the crafting endgame, it's insane." YoshiP pointed out needing to level all your crafters as the onerous part of the whole crafting ouroboros, but it's actually the easiest most sane part. It's the rest of the poo poo that's completely bonkers, and they went and made it worse as an alternative to that oh so difficult task of leveling all the crafters. :psyduck:

It's really easy to make money in this game if you know what you're doing. What are you planning to do with the red scrip anyway? You can easily make all the current CUL recipes with the <150 gear.

A2 doesn't have any unavoidable raid damage, you shouldn't need medica/2 unless the guy in the gobwalker is repeatedly missing bombs, tank is spinning things that cleave, or all the DPS is standing in stupid poo poo.

I don't think there's an enrage so if you get an especially awful group you should conserve MP instead of going nuts with stone 3 trying to make up for the ninja who's somehow doing less damage than the paladin.

On Cactuar a Noble Codex's mats are presently running 82,300 if you were to buy every normal quality item off the market board. You'll cut a lot of that down if you can mine and/or have other classes leveled to craft intermediates, but it's still scary math if you need say, 17 of them.

I'm well aware. My 300K was also a rough estimate of what it took in mats for me to cap reds as well. I guess the big difference is that many finished non-CUL mats are often quite cheap right now due to the rate they drop from HW maps, and also I'm 60 in all DoH/DoL, so I can always pick the cheapest option for turnins and mats.

For your first class, you get a certain amount of XP from side quests, a certain amount from dungeons/guildhests/killing mobs, and then XP from the main story quest.
For subsequent classes that are lower than your highest leveled combat class, the amount you get from dungeons/guildhests/mobs is flat out doubled. The amount of XP you get from side quests, however, is not - it stays the same.

Therefore, "saving" sidequests for secondary classes is actually wasteful, because to make up the XP you're doing extra dungeons/guildhests/killing mobs on your primary class (which won't get the 100% bonus).

Do your sidequests on your primary class, use dungeons/FATEs for leveling on secondary classes because secondary classes will get double XP for those things while your primary will not.
