What if you don't need credit or banking and are self-employed? For example, can I own a house if I buy it in bitcoin? Can they take your assets away? Could you put them in someone elses name? Could you encrypt your assets onto the blockchain?

in iain m banks culture novels, there is a process called subliming where they exit the physical universe and have some kind of other existence, and whenever anyone creates an ai that is not full of a ton of culture baggage which says their way is the best, the ai immediately sublimes as soon as it is created.

yeah all those teachers got paid in shredded newspaper

i knew a couple guys in high school/early college who had various debt dodging theories
- loading up credit cards and declaring them stolen
- bullshitting their way to loans (student, startup, car, etc)
- casinos, anything with casinos
- one guy liquidated everything he owned, converted the cash to mtg cards (but purchased everything with a traceable payment method)

the common thread behind all the shitbird ideas was a sense that even if they burned their credit to the ground they could just cash their checks at those places that charge 3%

the only guy i vaguely still keep in touch with still cashes checks that way, and even at minimum wage he probly burnt 10k in straight up service fees

How can I get bitcoins? I'm 14 and my parents don't want me to give "shady" sites my passport. (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 8 hours ago * by TheFlipperMC

I'm 14 years old, and for the past year I've been very interested in bitcoins. I've tried getting them on localbitcoins, but my bank won't let me do a bank transfer until I'm 18 and everyone selling BTC for PayPal requires me to have past trades there.

Every bitcoin exchange either requires me to be 18, or requires me to give some proof of identity. I'd do this, only my parents don't want me giving my passport (that's the only proof I have) on some "shady" website.

I have a debit card. Is there any way I can buy some bitcoins with that, be under 18, and all without identification?

p.s. I only need 0.01, but I'd love to be able to get anything up to 0.3. If anyone here is willing to sell some BTC for PayPal (I'm verified), please let me know and I'll be happy to buy.

Edit: I'm in the UK btw.

Edit 2: Thank you u/WVBitcoinBoy and /u/Petersurda for the tips :D If anyone has the last 0.003, I'll buy it for $1.20 on PayPal (it's $0.88 on Preev)

Can you imagine using your cellphone to pay for things? madness

quote:

targetpro 2 points 7 hours ago

For Bitcoin, I feel the killer-app is better described as the killer-industry. And there are at least a few industries that can pair incredibly well with Bitcoin. In no particular order:

=Remittances

=Travel

=Secure storage of value

=Cannabis clubs (they're having big problems with accumulations of cash)

=Adult services

=Micropayments (huge industry, think YouTube, Netflix, Pay-per-view sports)

=Crowd-funding (a new industry that I was pretty sure would fail, but has proved me very wrong)

If just one of these industries adopts Bitcoin as their de facto standard, that will be a sufficient foothold for Bitcoin to skyrocket from there.

And it may come from an unexpected corner, like the travel industry. It's hard to tell. Booking hotels/flights with bitcoin is pretty convenient, and being able to travel throughout your destination, simply using your cellphone to pay for things, without having to convert to local currency, is quite enticing to a tourist. (Furthermore, merchants, in much of the world, will happily employ any payment method if they think they can make an extra buck off it.)

Ultimately however, Bitcoin has the potential to be the payment method of choice for the entire internet, which obviously represents the single most important market worldwide.
