Therefore I should not be trusted when it comes to what final film is actually funny after the studio puts out a final version which happens after the teaser and trailer are done and you're into countdown :30 spots.

You're a good poster and it's great that you share your experience, it was just a reminder to take your early comments with a grain of salt :)

There's a credit in the IMDB page for a "nerdy CIA staffer" so maybe a character based on him'll get a mention, but there is no Sean Smith in the credits.

Personally just hoping that it makes a good holiday double bill with Go. Maybe triple bill with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

At the beginning of Transformers 3, Obama pins a medal on Sam's chest and Sam later mentions him by name, but "Obama" is never shown clearly in the one scene in which he appears.

God help me that I remember those movies this clearly.

Obama was also in the second movie, shown in a news report about him being escorted to a secure location.

Is Soderbergh still directing? The show is more of a curiosity than a must-see but I feel like that's what they're going for.

Is this their first non-documentary original feature? I thought they'd start with the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon sequel.

Depends how you define it I guess? They didn't produce this, they just bought the worldwide rights http://variety.com/2015/film/news/netflix-makes-another-bigscreen-splash-with-beasts-of-no-nation-1201444716/

As far as I know, he's still directing. The show is actually quite good, my wife and I enjoyed it. Although Soderberg's shtick where he plays a 3 minute scene on one character without cutting away while other characters are having a conversation is starting to wear thin.

My father is a retired surgeon and watched the series 4 times back to back, he liked it so much

At first I thought it was a combination of the realistic surgery scenes and the medical history/drama, but then I realized it's mostly the Thakery character. He's the drug-addled and hosed up yet brilliant womanizing rock star my dad wishes he was (instead of the normal, respectable small town general surgeon). He's a big Tony Soprano fan if that's any indication.

The direction and acting bail out the patchy writing pretty regularly, but 10 hours of Soderberg photography is really all I need from that show

I dislike most modern ghost story/horror films because they always fall apart at the end when they have to try to find a way to explain what's happening (and it usually ends up being dumb).

So, I'm hoping this isn't a supernatural tale that will fall prey to that because goddamn it looks unnerving as gently caress.

Oh boy, you're gonna be disappointed as hell with this one. I saw it last year at a festival, and was utterly baffled by people praising it. The first half or so, sure, it's creepy, but it falls apart in the worst way.

For those curious to know the horrible truth

Eventually the twins just tie the mom up and proceed to torture her in a variety of horrible ways, whether it's super gluing her mouth shut (and then using scissors to slice them open) or flossing her teeth down until it slices through her gums. And then it turns out one of the twins is dead and the surviving twin has been imagining him the whole time! It's like torture porn poo poo from 2004/2005, blagh.
