Saw on the infinity site the 3 August releases are:

Tiger Soldier Spitfire

Alguacile Hacker

Acmon - new character for Aleph

I play Corregidor and obviously I shouldn't therefore complain (but I will) that the alguacile hacker is a boring choice. I mean, yes, I can see why they'd want a new style one, as the difference in size, details and general look is very pronounced. But the last Alguacile hacker isn't that old, comes in the box most players will own, and is easily substituted by a stock alguacile anyway. Would have preferred a bandit or a resculpt for an older model, or the long awaited Mobile Brigada box.

First world problems though, that Tiger is looking pretty promising and there's always next month.

Oh goodie, I can save money by not buying another new tiger :v:

Pity the Nomad hacker is an Alguacil and not a WIldcat or bandit, but it should make a good Wildcat after a helmet transplant.

I only have a couple of the new alguaciles (combi rifles) but I will eventually get the SWC box and maybe some more rifles as well. I have a plan to instant-mold the starter set Grenzer helmet and use that on all of them - I just prefer the smooth-dome Nomad helmet look to bare heads.

I usually don't, but you can if you want. The Machinist can pick up the drones and un immobilize the HI and drones when you get popped with E/M or glue guns, which is why I have it in there. Also, I have a soft spot for the monkey wrench model and use it at every opportunity. You could easily replace the Pathfinder with a doc if you are so inclined.

Took down my Yu Jing buddy with a vengeance tonight. Played ITS Lifeblood with Adriana, score was 5-2. Irmandihos are siiiiiiiick. I had a D-charge on 5 of the six boxes at the end of my first turn.

Had no success getting my Forward Observers to land Targeted on any of the enemies, so the Guided rocket launcher on my Traktor was no use. Any advice for getting Targeted on folks? Seems like a straight WIP roll vs. an ARO is pretty drat risky most times. You'd be better off with a burst 3 rifle BS attack in most cases.

Question - Is this because the scaling for the newer Nomads box (the ones that came with Operation Ice Storm) is smaller? How do they scale against existing miniatures? I am just wondering as I hate the newer larger aesthetic to their miniatures, but if these ones are still good in size I'll likely pick some of them up to use.

Oh well, played some more Infinity last night which was well and good. Decided last minute to field a Jotum & Joan in a single list which was pretty brutal. My buddy has been learning his CA and has started playing at 300pts (he's been playing the past few years with me, playing Nomads) and he sort of shat himself at the Jotum as everything bounced off it. :getin:

The Icestorm Nomads and choices since (eg jaguars, alguacile SWC) are significantly larger, by maybe a head when the models are placed side to side, and much chunkier, with thick arms and legs, especially on the blokes. While I can see how Infinity is trending slightly towards 'the game of body dysmorphia' with superhero proportioned male and tiny, hip-tilting female models, I like the new style. While some people go bonkers about the scale difference, it is very pronounced in an internet browser photo taken from the horizontal, with the models side by side - it is not noticeable on the table, at arms length, unless maybe the two models are in close combat. So I wouldn't worry.

Weissritter posted:

I think the few points for a doc can be worth it just to make your opponent think twice, or maybe spend orders finishing unconscious models, especially if the doc was a base model you are happy to take anyway (looking at you, Haqqislam). The main thing with taking doctors is to let them get at the models who are down. So I see new players often include a basic doc, and have them off on their own. When the game is tight, there is no way you want to spend 3-5 orders moving the doc, possibly through LoF, just to get a chance at the roll. If you take a doctor, take a bot, 2 if you can. Position either them and/or the doc protected from LoF and right next to the models you want to keep in the fight. If doctoring is a big part of your contingency plans, keep 1-2 command tokens back to try and ensure a success. 1-2 orders can really be worth it to bring back an expensive model in a threatening position. More than that is always hard to find. When done right, doctoring is more than worth it - I can remember ineptmule giving me a hard time with a tuareg doc deployed prone next to a lasiq sniper in a good position, and have won tournament games myself by bringing back an intruder hmg. Long range models that stay near your DZ are generally easier to heal than offensive models. One exception is strong offensive links that can include a doctor.

I had to cancel my darksphere order for IceStorm since they didn't have it in stock, and couldn't even tell me when they would. I spoke to my regular opponent and he said he actually fancied Shasvastii and Haqqislam, so we're thinking of buying a couple of starter boxes. We have some counters but I have a feeling we're going to need many infinity-specific ones. Is there a good place to pick them up? For my force, since I'm not restricted to PanO/Nomads was going to be ALEPH or Yu Jing. I heard the latter has many of the fiddly older sculpts - but other than that is there anything to bear in mind specifically as to their models/playstyle that might trip me up?

They make sense. If I want to bring one, PanO do not seem to have many options though.

PanO literally only has the Machinist for the Engineer, (or the Indigo if you play with Spec Ops), so you will feel forced into taking him if you want one. Doc Wise you have the Hospitaller, Trauma Doc, Indigo and Bipandra in total if I remember correctly, we do have a score of Paramedics though like every other faction.

We've got a few of the marker sets in stock at FSG, although I'm trying to remmeber what. I think we have a few marker sets and most of the specialist sets. We have all the templates and silhouette tokens though.

ALEPH are a bit more elite heavy and you might find them a bit OP when you start, ALEPH are one of the easier factions in the game to pick up as their weaknesses can be trickier to exploit when you're new, but as you get more experienced you'll see where the balance in the system lies. :)

Southern Heel
Jul 2, 2004

I may have spoken to you at FSG yesterday if that's the case ( I picked p the recommendation in this thread) but as mentioned my opponent fancies something other than nomads/PanO and since it's not got the full rules anyway, seems a little counterproductive.

How are Yu Jing? It looks like Shasvastii might be pretty advanced (I'm seeing custom markers just for them, etc.)

Flipswitch
Mar 30, 2010

Shasvastii have a few custom rules to remember but to be honest most Infinity rules are actually fairly straightforward, it tends to be a game of lots of little exceptions to make rather than big sweeping rule changes you know? I don't think there's any single faction I'd push new players away from, just I'd ensure on teaching them how their rules break down and play out throughout the teaching and coaching process. :)

Yu Jing are a faction that tend to have some fairly cheap and generic low cost soldiers that aren't really exceptional in any way and bolsters them with elite, more expensive troops that tend to come equipped with some top end equipment or special skills. Your rank and file chaps are quite forgettable for the most part (except the bloody Kaung Shi; suicide shock troops) but the elite troops like Remotes (REMs), Medium Infantry (MI) and Heavy Infantry (HI) are where the faction tends to shine.

E: You definitely don't need Icestorm to start either, it's a great buy in for people completely new to the system and starting their own little scene but it isn't required. You can download the same quick-start ruleset and just apply it to starter boxes truth be told. Be a little wary though because the starter boxes aren't perfectly balanced against each other, they're good for starting armies but they aren't on even levels when doing this.

I started with pure Shasvastii and had fun (:v:) despite starting at 150pt which is terrible for CA. The main problem might be that Shasvastii have a very specific playstyle, basically you have to be the biggest rear end in a top hat ever, never accept a straight fight, misdirect, mindfuck and dictate everything you can from FTF mods to table control to the flow of battle. If you want to play a techy sneaky underdog, they're awesome.

Also, Seed-Embryos are confirmed to be able to link, so 4 eggs + hatched Hasht providing covering fire with full link bonuses is now a thing. So is hatching the whole team with 1 order.

Yu Jing are where you head if you want a generic flavorful faction and PanO feels bland. In contrast to PanO shoot-everything tech, Yu Jing is a mixed bag - you have cheap assault-geared HI, transformer drones, motorcycle fast attack, MSV2 hunter drones, camo infiltrating specialists in heavy armor, awesome AD, the Japanese army knife that is the Karakuri, and a ton of cheap troops to bolster them. A shitload of units has some form of Martial Arts, which apart from getting awesomer in N3 grant you Stealth, so no hacking from outside of LOF and no turning until you flank them from behind a wall and pump a shotgun burst into their backs with a +6 mod.

Also, cyber samurai, Akira bikers, ninjas, oppressive police state, and political prisoners in explosive collars as suicide troops :v:

Nah it isn't. There's way too many missing sculpts in the range to ever worry about it to be honest! There's no distinguishing features for paramedics or forward observers for example, so I wouldn't ever worry about it.

The golden rule is "you proxy it you care for it", i.e. it's your responsibility to remind the opponent what it is, even if he forgets every 5 minutes. Apart from that, WYSIWYG requirements are only for tournaments, and almost every ITS event I've seen allowed some leeway like allowed % of proxies or "unit must be the same but weapon loadout doesn't".

And no one cares about modeling FOs,paramedics, and the like.

All very true - Imperial Service is one of the factions I've considered picking up, I love the idea of elite imperial agents, despised executioner/secret police units, brainwashed political prisoners and hardbitten penal assault troops. Plus they can take multiple REMs, bounty hunters including Sforza, and aleph specialists.

I played a good tournament game against Shasvastii once where I took a strong early lead, punking 2 reaction REMs simultaneously with an HMG Intruder (2nd edition camouflage, risk to win) and taking centre field with a wildcat link. My oppo then played a sneaky, unmanly and generally appropriate game, using his remaining camo troops to move from behind corners/stand up from parapeted roofs to shoot, then go back out of LoF, never exposing himself, picking off some of my models, and ultimately restricting me to a very narrow win.

I might go to a tournament next weekend and would like to paint the stuff in the meantime, so advice please.

The format is 300pt Spec Ops, two lists, Brutal Force (one combat group only, Transmission Matrix + Annihilation + Quadrant Control + Frontline).

The idea is to have a beatstick list and a hacking list for TM or brainfrying. My current idea is:

Combined Army - murderbrick
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

Group 1 10 0 1
AVATAR Lieutenant (Strategos L3) MULTI HMG, Sepsitor Plus / DA CCW. (3.5 | 137)
Q-DRONE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26)
M-DRONE Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (17)
YAOGAT MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 34)
DĀTURAZI Chain Rifle, Grenades, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (14)
SHROUDED (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (25)
UNIDRON (Forward Observer) Plasma Carbine / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (15)
TREITAK Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife, Stun Pistol. (14 / 12XP)
MOV:4-4 CC:14 BS:11 PH:12 WIP:16 ARM:1 BTS:0 W:1
Hacking Device, Doctor, Engineer
IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (9)
IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (9)

6 SWC | 300 Points

Open with Army 5

It's my best chance to run the Avatar at a tournament, so it's not moving from the list.
Neither is Q as the holy-gently caress-how-many-crits-can-this-thing-roll murderbot, seriously, this adorable critter has such good luck it's scary (for the enemy :v:)
Ikadrons are supposed to go forward once to secure the closest areas with extra baggage value and be a pain in the rear end to anyone who gets the idea to air-deploy on flanks.
Shrouded is there for mines and sitting there being Shasvastii all in the midfield, the FO is there for flash pulse and a chance for classified points.
Treitak is the resident hacker and classified specialist.
Yaogat + Daturazi are area control backup. I might switch the Yogurt for a Maakrep, but I'd have to paint another model :v:
Unidron is basically a grunt+, I'll put it where I might need a rifle and don't have one, also cheap.
M is TO Camo hunter / repeater / triangulated firer/ classified grabber.

Known problems:
- Treitak could use a slave drone, he's clearly a "static specialist" build. I'd have to shave points off something though.
- Shrouded would probably be better as minelayer, but no SWC.
- Unidron hasn't got a good idea of what to do with itself.

Combined Army - cookie clicker
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

Group 1 10 0 2
CHARONTID Lieutenant Hacker (Hacking Device Plus) Plasma Rifle, Nanopulser / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 73)
UMBRA LEGATE Hacker (Hacking Device Plus) Boarding Shotgun, Flash Pulse / Pistol, DA CCW. (0.5 | 43)
SPECULO KILLER Boarding Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Monofilament CCW, Knife. (1 | 34)
SHROUDED (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (25)
KO DALI Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, D-Charges / 2 Assault Pistols, Knife. (37)
M-DRONE Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (17)
Q-DRONE HMG / Electric Pulse. (1 | 26)
TREITAK Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife, Stun Pistol. (14 / 12XP)
MOV:4-4 CC:14 BS:11 PH:12 WIP:16 ARM:1 BTS:0 W:1
Hacking Device, Doctor, Engineer
SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (3)
DĀTURAZI Chain Rifle, Grenades, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (14)
DĀTURAZI Chain Rifle, Grenades, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW. (14)

3 SWC | 300 Points

Open with Army 5

This is more of a clicking list, very much oriented towards the Transmission Matrix scenario.
Charontid and Umbra are the offensive hackers, with cybermask and firewalls on they're terrifying.
Treitak is backup specialist because I can take him, notice that he does have a slave this time :v:
Daturazis are cheap orders and throw smoke to give others safer/more effective movement routes.
Speculo and Ko Dali are the ultimate harasser tag team, basically AD2 and eliminate whatever's not covered by the others.
Q and M are explained above :roboluv: same roles.
Same for the Shrouded, except that now I can actually use a specialist.

Known problems:
- not sure about the Speculo - very effective but fragile, not sure if I can afford the quick order loss.
- Ko Dali was originally a shotgun Rasyat, I like the idea of tiptoeing behind a cover and +6-blasting a bunch of grunts or an LT, but I also want some MSV coverage.
- too many order hogs? Speculo, Ko Dali, Charontid and Umbra all want orders. They might be good backup for a TAG-less list, but are they worth it? If not, what's better?
- free SWC; I'm toying with the idea of taking an enhanced-reactions Unidron ML as another area-control piece and a potential TAG deterrent. Maybe if I downgrade the Speculo?

Seriously though, poke holes in my lists, tear them apart, suggest improvements. I'm rusty and need feedback.

I don't play vanilla Combined or have much experience against spec ops or a lot of your models, but in the first list, I would get 2 drones for your treitak specialist - downgrade the sniffer drone to one of those 8pt unarmed ones, or an imetron. You already have camo hunters, the remote's skills seem difficult to use in a 10-order list, and better ability to revive the yaogat sniper or keep the avatar topped up will make the list very scary.

Looking them over buddy, I do prefer the first list but admittedly I am not a fan of the Avatar. I think the list looks well balanced though buddy and is definitely playable. The second list looks fine too, the only thing I'd be a bit wary of is maybe Ko Dali and the Speculo might be a bit too order heavy together when the Speculo eventually bites the dust and you may still be waiting on Ko Dali, you know? I'd test the second one.

Also can any ISS players refresh my mind here, Bao Troops, they can only link with agents or is it they can? I think it's the former but I honestly cannot remember. ARMY5 actually tells me this now, I did not know this!
