The protagonist is a different type of character and it's about mahjong instead of a variety of different games, but Akagi is the same style of show as Kaiji so if you enjoy one you'll probably enjoy both.

On the topic on Gundam, I don't think I've watched much of the series, but I do believe the best Gundam was the 2nd season of Code Geass.
