Rokka has been very deliberately paced, it took a couple episodes to even get near to the premise. i feel like that has worked to its benefit though
That's cool. I like it when a story has that kind of confidence in its premise.

Way too many series feel like they've got some first episode checklist they need to go over.

Thank you Hulu for freezing and crashing in the middle of an episode.

Small wonder CR is the premiere anime streaming service in the States.

I wonder if there's a generational thing here. Like, people who were teens or early twenties right during the beginning of torrents, and just download the poo poo out of everything, but people a little bit younger are used to streaming stuff like Hulu and Netflix and whatever the gently caress Spotify is.

I started off on VHS fansubs and streaming is way better than any of that poo poo.

In my case it has less to do with age and more to do with if there's a proper channel for something I prefer to use it.

I took one of those D&D alignment tests and popped out Lawful. Wasn't too surprised.

I did love that bit in Shimoneta where it talks about how everybody got used to streaming and on-demand porn, so when the censors banned it nobody had any hard copies of porn anymore, and were totally screwed.

Yeah, I was on an anime mailing list back in the day.

An actual mailing list. As in, you copied your shows and mailed it to a fan, who copied his shows and mailed them to you.

I collected Rurouni Kenshin and Fushigi Yuugi that way.

Kids these days will never know the pain of watching an anime episode that is a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy on VHS.

I had to get my fansub VHS tapes from my local comic shop, and the guy running it treated the whole affair like a drug deal. Everything had to be secretive and he refused to hand me the tapes if there was someone else in the shop. It was so loving annoying, but it wasn't like I had a choice back then.

There is a comic shop near me that has a ton of Anime VHS still for sale. Eat-Man, Iczer, Those Who Hunt Elves. 3 dollars per tape. I don't think a single tape has sold in the past five years.
