The medical treatment the tissue is used to help develop may save a living child's life. It will be very expensive, as all medical things are, but most children's hospitals never turn away a patient due to the family's inability to pay. In other words, price: negotiable.

Perhaps Tinsley's adorable portrayal of Grim Reaper here is meant as a symbolism to Planned Parenthood's nice image (of safe family planning) hiding something terrible (loves death).

Actually, how is PP perceived in the general American public before this 'scandal' came out? I've only heard about the vehement anti-abortionists protesting outside abortion clinics, but PP isn't just abortion clinic, yeah?

Marge, I'd like to be alone with the sandwich for a moment.

Are you going to eat it?

...yes...
People who hate women who have sex hate planned parenthood because they've been taught for years by their media that it's an abortion mill. Everyone else is neutral to positive on it.

There are only 3 opinions:
1. likes PP because it provides a lot of useful services at low cost
2. vehemently despises PP because abortion, does not recognize or admit that 97% of what PP does is other useful stuff
3. doesn't have a particularly strong opinion but is convinced by the rhetoric of #2 that PP only does abortions

Yeah "3% of clinic visits are for abortion services" is the figure they always point to. The rest is medical screenings, counseling, contraceptive services... I've done patient escorting for them a few times and while I certainly never inquired about someone's reason for their visit, the few who volunteered their reasoning claimed they were there for free preventative exams and the like. Make of that what you will.

And I was curious about the perception, so I looked into it: http://today.yougov.com/news/2015/07/23/planned-parenthood-still-liked-most-americans/
In March 2014, 55% held a favorable opinion. After the scandal, 52%. I think most Americans have made up their minds about the abortion debate, those views correspond to their views on PP, and the ACORN-esque video merely played into whatever their beliefs already were, for better or worse.

I've been seeing some commercials on TV lately that involve a women explaining how PP allowed her to find out she had breast cancer and then get it treated before it was too late. I'm sure PP is aware of the amount of misinformation against them at this point so it's nice to see something at least trying to dispel that in the mind of people that aren't totally poisoned against them.

Planned Parenthood would have a way better image if they changed their name. The name "Planned Parenthood" brings to mind contraceptives and abortions, and that's pretty much it, so of course the public image of it is the abortion and contraceptive factory. If their name was National Women's Health Centre or something like that, people would associate them with all the other stuff as well.

Ah, but see, they actually try to skew those numbers, with totally real and not at all insanely stupid actual practice of Planned Parenthood.

quote:

Planned Parenthood murdered 327,653 babies in 2014, using $528.4 million taken forcibly from you by your own government. That’s an average of $1,612 for each murder.

What’s interesting is that in 2012 PP did 333,964 abortions, offered prenatal services to 5,398 women and adoption referrals for only 841 women. Abortions were obviously the main thing they did. It was estimated then that abortion comprised 97% of their “services”. But PP wanted to pretend they were more than just baby murderers.

So, like magic, last year, they started counting their “services” differently. Suddenly they claimed they did 378,692 pap tests, provided 1,440,495 emergency contraception kits, 4,470,597 STD tests, and an amazing 487,000 “breast exams” when not one single PP affiliate would actually admit that they did mammograms. Abortion is now “only 3%” of the services they offer, they claim. Yet they didn’t expand from 2012 to 2014, in fact they have fewer clinics. So how were they able to pull this off?

Simple.

327,653 women went to Planned Parenthood for abortions. All they’d need to do is make a half-dozen or so medical and STD tests a routine addition to each and every abortion, and the number of “services” multiplies like magic. Then when the women leave, give them several “emergency contraception kits” and some birth control pills (counting each individual pill as a separate “service”) and the numbers keep adding up. And the breast exams, easily done, also as part of the abortion. A mammogram and a breast exam are not the same thing. If a doctor feels a woman’s breast, that’s a breast exam, in fact the way PP does their math, it’s most likely two breast exams*.

To get the abortion percentage down to 3% all they needed to do is add around 33 additional “services” to each abortion they provide. A smattering of tests, some kits and a packet of birth control pills would easily reverse the percentage and allow any idiot, Liberal “journalist” to regurgitate their lies.

Look at it this way. Let’s say a store is accused of being a porn shop, but they claim that pornography is only a small percentage of their business. The way they get around this is to add a pack of matches to each purchase of porn. Each individual match is an item, so one porn video plus 20 matches makes porn less than 5% of the items in that transaction. Therefore they claim porn is less than 5% of their business, when it’s actually 100% of their business. (NOTE: If we’ve offended any low-life, smut peddlers by comparing them to Planned Parenthood, we sincerely apologize)

*Yes, at 487,000 “breast exams” that’s not twice 327,653. We must assume not every woman getting an abortion wanted the abortionist to grab the second breast.

And the retort to that completely unsourced conservative blogpost is that only 10% of Planned Parenthood patients receive an abortion. http://www.factcheck.org/2011/04/planned-parenthood/
So unless you're giving like 100 different services to an individual and counting them all separately...

33 additional services. 33. Per abortion.

Thirty three.

For each abortion.

Every single time.

This is a person with no sense of loving scale. 33 services. That is insane.

And all this as a way to hide their abortion bill? Seriously?

One of the other things about planned parenthood is that the religious right is against all forms of contraception. There is a strong influence from movements like quiverfull and whatnot that believe that God commands us to have as many children as possible (yes this is the thinking that creates people like the Duggars) and that sex is only for procreation and not for fun. They harp on abortion because that's what gets people angry and gets them to hate stuff like PP. But if you really get down to it they believe that all forms of contraception should be banned, sex ed should always be abstinence only forever, and people that have extramarital sex should be severely punished.
